March 19, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi all,I would like to send out a test .exe to anyone who is experiencing problems downloading online winds aloft, to verify that the fix is working correctly. If you would like to test, please send me an email to with the subject line "WINDS TEST". Thank you very much for your assistance!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 25, 200323 yr Jim sent me the test file last weekend. Unfortunately no luck. I still get the time-out message 98% of the time.Scott H.
March 25, 200323 yr Scott,Would you post some details for us. What settings are you using and what error messages are you getting? Sorry I have to ask, but old age is setting in and I can't keep some of this stuff straight!!!Thanks for your help,JimActiveSky Support
March 25, 200323 yr Jim:I ran the test and had the same difficulties; however; I did not hear from Damian on receiving my report that the new file didn't appear to resolve the issues. The problem of "no usable winds" details and the contant "trying another station" continues to be a problem in the original version. Note: that the program does not allow you to quit the attempt to D/L the reports, and that's kind of important if you want to see what the option settings are? I reported back to Damian noting that I had dropped back to the original 1.6 release and disabled the TAF reporting. On the test file an error arose that noted a conflict between the TAF D/L attempt and the Metar downloads. You may want to look at that. I MUST have FSFlightMAX running on my remote PC to get anything running at all, of course, since the program exports to it. Sorry to butt in here on your previous reply - but I thought you may as well have my information as well.Hope that helps. Ron McLeod CYEG
March 25, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hello Ron,"No Usable Winds Details.. Trying another station" is a different error entirely. I was under the impression you were getting a BAD ALOFT DATA/TIMEOUT error? Sorry if there was a mix up here! The trying another station is normal when the data reported (sucessfully) by the server has no usable information. In other words no soundings for temp or wind speed/dir were made at any altitude. In this case the next closest station is used after a re-download attempt is made. So this error and re-download is completely normal. However, there may be a problematic winds station you are experiencing.. which stations is causing this error? If its always invalid we can remove it.Hope that helps..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies

If its >always invalid we can remove it. Damian:Don't know why but I'm not getting any WX now. I'm back using the original 1.6 and right now I'm still getting the "No usable winds" error. The program continues in a loop "trying another station... Standby...", and I cannot unload it without using TaskManager and blow the program out. In the last few minutes it reports details: of 08160; 72766; 82599; 82900; 60715; 82397; 62378. I've checked my firewall and it is enabled.Just a minute: I just got a "Weather complete..." then a Cloud layer conflict in METAR, skipping transition...The program says Active Wx Station DGAA /336nm, probably because FS2002 is NOT running because I'm online in the forum. Here's what options show:UTC -7 Hour 20 (which is 2 hrs too many) (it's 130PM MST)Offline def file is expcycle19Z.wxd. Vatsim Metars checked, TAF off, Export and System time checked, Winds aloft sim checked, along with wake turb; and Disable forced wind updates.I've deleted ALL *.met files, and I'm getting an auto D/L of METAR files now. I'm back to "offlines ready" and I'll go online with FS2002 and FSMax and see what happens. Thanks,Ron McLeod CYEG
March 25, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Ron,Apparently there was a server problem today, perhaps causing this... I am looking into it to prevent this 'loop' action when the server is responding erroneously this way. Is everything working now?-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies

I've been getting weather, but every now and then it chokes, clears and then grabs some more WX. It hung for a few minutes at LAX and then repeated the process. Certainly seems to agree with the server issue... I don't think it's the program.Ron McLeod CYEG
