March 23, 200323 yr "ActiveSky vs Real Weather....PERFORMANCE!" Fellow simmers,As a user of ActiveSky WxRE and of the latest version 1.6 (coupled with SkyWorld for clouds), I find that my flights "stutter" more frequently than when I use MS Real Weather and Sky World Clouds. Do any of you experience this? I have a brand new Dell 2.8 gig with all the goodies for smooth flight.I noticed the difference yesterday. All my sliders are maxed and am using 9700 ATI Radeon board. I also enable Anti Aliasing, etc.I look forward to your responses on this.Stan
March 23, 200323 yr Stan,Many users do not have these stutters, but we know that some do. There seems to be no pattern or common piece of information that has surfaced yet. I have a much older system than you and do not get any stutters. A few users have found that running wxRE minimized to the task bar has helped them. Others have found that turning off the Export to FlightMax option helps. Know that in the long run we are doing everything possible to correct this for EVERYONE.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 23, 200323 yr Yes, I also have the issues described above, nice to know the problem is being investigated. Not yet tried the tips suggested above but will try them and report back if they help.Athlon XP1800Windows XP and SP1512 RamGe Force3 Det 41.09'sCheersPete
March 23, 200323 yr Author Good. I'm a real lover of Active Sky. I do run the program minimized to the task bar. I'll check to see if I have the FlightMax option checked. I don't think I do...but I'll check. Please continue working on a solution. Thanks..Stan
March 24, 200323 yr you can reduce stutter by not having everything maxed. Clouds and AI at 100% will always bring the greatest of machines to it's knees. I also suggest you see what other programs you have running in the background. March 25, 200323 yr Hi Stan and Pete, could you try running ActiveSky in offline mode and see if you still get stutters? If not, then the culprit is most likely your internet connection. In that case, you can start experimenting - first, see if checking the 'idle priority' box in Active Sky makes any difference. If that doesn't help, have a look at your internet connection - you may want to change from full duplex to half mode. If that doesn't do a thing, try changing your program priorities, try changing FS to 'high' or 'real time' (some systems don't like the latter), while turning down your network card/modem drivers to 'low'.Beware, though - the effect of changing any of these setting depends greatly on your individual system configuration. While changing just one of these parameters may cure the problem on one computer, it may refuse to go away on another, no matter what you do...Also remember that if you get the stutters in offline mode as well, it's most likely a problem with the wxRE/FS interaction, and my suggestions are unlikely to have any effect.Good luck!Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
