April 3, 200323 yr How is it possible to use Activesky to look at what the worldwide winds aloft are doing before I get airborne? If I make a list of all the winds aloft stations I expect to fly over, would it be possible to use the wxBriefing (or anything else) to find out wether I'll have a head wind or not?On long flights, this is crucial for fuel planning of course! Thanks,Tom
April 3, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Tom,the wx Briefing can be used if flying within the US. It will give FD station winds forecasts which are highly indicative of the conditions you'll experience (although not always dead on - of course!).When outside the US, you can use this:http://aviationweather.gov/fltfldr/Which is the Internation Flight Folder for NOAA - it will give graphic winds charts for all areas of the world. Info on how to decode these charts is provided on that site. You can also go to the country's (you will be flying in) air services site. Most countries have one (i.e. US is NOAA). Easily searchable via the internet.A good site for text-base winds reports is:http://weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.htmlThis one lets you click on stations from a map... might be a good way to flight plan quickly without having to search for charts or learning how to decode them.Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
