April 6, 200323 yr Re: "Clearing Real World Weather;" the following partial excerpts are from the thread under Topic#551, "FS2k2 Crashes w/ ActiveSky 1.6" presently shown on page 2 or this forum. Steve Lewis submitted the original post stating he had some problems with FS2k2 crashing and he thought it might be caused by AS ver. 1.6. The first quote below (1.) is from my reply which was an attempt to help by explaining how I used AS ver. 1.6. The second quote (2.) is from Steve's reply to me. The third post (3.) is from you, Damian, and it seems to question the purpose or reason for my clearing FSRWW. I inferred from your sentence that this was the first time you had heard of anyone clearing FS's Real World Weather before initializing ActiveSky, but if I insisted upon doing so, it was okay with you if I wanted to employ such a unique AS initialization procedure. Given the moderators' insistence on AS users reading the "ReadMe" files and The Manual to try to figure out how to set matters right on their own before submitting posts with problems, and in light of your apparent questioning as to why anyone would want to clear FS2k2RWW before downloading AS weather/winds aloft/etc., I call your attention to the quote at #4. below. You will note that emphasis is placed on using this procedure, e.g., "CLEAR your weather (World, Weather, Clear All) and THEN start wxRE." Perhaps you were simply suggesting to Steve that clearing RWW wouldn't help with his immediate problem. However, when you state, " . . .it is worth a try" it sounds like something I dreamed up on my own, when, in fact, it is a procedure recommended in the AS Manual. At any rate, clearing the RWW makes sense to me; I use it, and it seems to work just fine. 1. (my reply to Steve): "I always start FS2k2, place the aircraft at the departure airport, load the flight plan, set the trim tabs, initial departure heading, etc.. I then "Clear" the current weather and switch to ActiveSky to start its initialization routine and loading of online weather data." 2. (Steve's response): "I haven't been "clearing" my weather so maybe that's the problem."3. (Damian's reply): "I don't think the clearing the wx has anything to do with this but it is worth a try."4. (Verbatim quote from page 11 of the ActiveSky ver. 1.6 Manual): " When starting FS2002 BEFORE wxRE, you should set your location, CLEAR your weather (World, Weather, Clear All) and THEN start wxRE. This ensures consistent results."***********************************************************Now, if I can just find the answer and a "fix" in The Manual as to why I have yet to encounter the 2,500' OVC shown in the streaming green bar, and reported by voice on 122.0, while on ILS finals at a couple of metar airports recently, I'll be well on my way to mastering ActiveSky. The strange thing is, after landing, I switched to FS2k2 Real World Weather, and sure enough, there was the overcast. Hope this doesn't come off sounding like carping, because it isn't. Your ActiveSky is one fine weather add-on. Russ
April 6, 200323 yr Commercial Member Russ,I never implied that you shouldn't clear weather. Only that NOT clearing it should not cause a lockup (nothing should!).Is your problem that overcast layers are not showing up? Please send me a screenshot incl main and status screens if this happens again, I can more easily see what is going on.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
