Offline Winds Problem

Featured Replies

I'm having problems with winds aloft since updating to v1.7. I took off today from EBBR with a surface wind of 08010G24 and almost imediately after t/o encountered not only the planned gust but also gusts of up to 98 kts! The gusting stopped after a few thousand feet and settled in to a steady 98 kts. This of course is not correct. It seems that my winds went up to the value indicated in the winds aloft data very shortly after t/o instead of gradually increasing. Also, AS is reporting the winds aloft should be 210 at 83 but the FMC is showing actual winds of 125 at 98. Any idea what could be causing these problems? Thanks for any help. Jeff

Ok. This got even stranger at the end of the flight. The wind speed of 98 kts. remained for the entire flight but the direction did change a couple of times. There was absolutely no change of wind speed from FL350 all the way to the surface. My rollout was all of about 30 ft. Although I have taxi wind set in FSUIPC I was still showing 98 kts after landing. I tried shutting down AS on short final and clearing all weather but I still did not get rid of the 98 kt. wind. All other wx was clear though. Very, very strange. A one time anomaly? Anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks again for any responses.

Jeff,Sorry you are having a problem. Try d'loading a new set of winds data and see if the problem goes away. Please let us know the outcome.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jeff,Yes, gets reported now and then, FS2002 wind cache problem, nothing to do about it (it is very rare) except reload your FS aircraft so FS resets winds... but if you use ADVDISP this is known to cause this to be more frequent - try disabling it. Hope this helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

It does help, thank you. I'll disable ADVDISP and see how that works out. Should be ok now that we have the voice feature with AS.

Hi Jeff,Also check that you have wind smoothing enabled in FSUIPC to make your wind transitions gradual..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Yeah, I had a problem on my next flight too. I wrote a response to another topic regarding a temp problem. Maybe it's a problem just for us offline folks. Maybe if I select update on new station it will help. I don't want to do that but if it's just a bad report, it should help in the transition to one that is accurate faster than before.
