April 18, 200323 yr Hello,I noticed a significant difference between weather in online mode and offline.Positioned my aircraft at Rotterdam NL, EHRD, and in online i get the correct weather (Metar 180925z, TAF 180424z and winds aloft data from station WMO ID 06260, EHDB de Bilt in the Netherlands. Same position, same time of the day, I get in offline mode, metar from 180925z, TAF from 121027z and winds aloft data from WMO ID 10410, which is EDZE Essen in Germany, 100 Nm distance from EHRD.It is getting even more weird as I checked the winds08z.wmo (the cycle file for offline) and found no entry for 10410 but there was a entry for 06260. Don't know where the downloaded TAF is coming from but if it is coming from weather.noaa.gov, these are indeed from the 12th of april and outdated 6 day's.I upgraded to version 1.8 beta.Attached two screenshots to clarify things.Best Regards,Niekhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3672.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3673.jpg
April 19, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Nick,Sometimes the online/offline winds will be different. Online gets the latest report available (no matter how old) for the closest station in wmo.txt (thus if a station is reporting consistent old data it should be removed from wmo.txt so another closest is used - each area of the world is different and changes can be rapid so you can edit this file to keep up to date with your area). Offline gets only 2 or 3 days of data (but for the entire world instead of one station at a time) so if a station didn't report within that time it won't show up (the next closest will be used). Again your wmo.txt can be edited to preference...Old TAFs... this may be temporary or the station may have stopped reporting TAF data permanently. I suspect it is temporary but if it remains you can remove it from icao.txt so the next closest METAR/TAF station will be used.Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 19, 200323 yr Hi Damian,Thanks for your reply, but that is not what i meant.1. EHDB (06260) is reporting on a regular base i know ( it is our national weather service station). even deleting WMO ID 10410 from the windsxx.wmo and editing the entry for WMO ID 06260 to the closets time and date didn't showed up 06260 as the closets station but still 10410.I did some more investigations (see attached screenshot picture) and found out that the program is looking for a figure '10410', so it ended up some where in the states (see the winds and temperatures in the *.wmo file and the active sky window, they match). So 10410 is not the WMO ID but a altitude, giving me totally wrong winds aloft.Still in online mode it will give the proper data for station 06260.I rather think there is a bug in the program in offline download mode for not gething the closets station but consists looking for 10410 in the windsxx.wmo file whether this is a WMO ID or a altitude (it is not able to see the difference).2. Outdated TAF's has nothing to do with the fact that the station is not reporting, EHRD is a regional airport (where i fly myself) and is making TAF's on a regular basis. The problem i found out is the TAF cycle (which I presume will be used for download from the NOAA site for offline use). Normally old data from the previous day will be deleted first before uploading new data. That is not happening and the cycle files contains data that goes back to the 12th of april, untill now. In offline I presume the program looks for the first entry for EHRD, being the TAF of the 12th of april, that's why these TAF's are outdated. This has nothing to day with a sort of bug in Active Sky but with a problem on the NOAA data server, not deleting the previous entries first.Hopes this clarifies some issues, and hope you are able to resolve these problems.Best regards,Niekhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4100.jpg
April 22, 200323 yr Commercial Member Aha... thank you for that info. I see what the problem is.
