April 21, 200323 yr HiDownloading is much better through to completion with 1.8.However, I have downloaded 3 times over the last 2 days and I keep getting strange wind conditions. My last flight from an airport in France the surface wind was 060/15 as soon as I reach around 3000 feet I almost loose control with wind changes at 135knots! Also, my onboard wind indicator - direction and speed, are different from the figures given with shift-Z.Please advise.ThanksBob
April 22, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Bob,135 knots at 3000 ft.. sounds strange indeed. Please send me a screenshot of main, status, and fs2002 w/ shift-z and I'll investigate. However, the wind transition should not have been sudden. Check your FSUIPC wind smoothing options - make sure its enabled and you have a decent rate settings (recommend 2 deg/kts per sec).-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 22, 200323 yr Hi Damian,I too got weird winds behaviours last weekend. I'm using V1.7 and the winds transitions are smoothed out.I fly offline and double checked the .wmo file for any error (that is: correct IDs, correct sequence of datas). I also sat on ground for the better part of half an hour doing my checklists and waiting for traffic, so AS had all the time to pick up and simulate the weather (that was alwasy correct with respect to the METARs and TAFs).Flying from Frankfurt (EDFF) to Milan Malpensa (LIMC), just passing 3000 ft with surface winds out of 030 deg at 6 kt, I got a 270/74 in less the 1000 ft (that was the coorect wind fro station 10618 at about 25000 ft). If I did not put he smooth winds transitions in the FSUIPC, I could never have been able to fight this changing winds. It stayed fixed at 270/74 up to my TOC of 31000 ft. Thence I didn't get any Swiss staton (but one, Payerne, was OK in the .wmo file). When about 100 miles out of Milan I got the LIML (Linate-16080) winds, correctly simulated both in direction and strenght in the different levels downt to a smooth transition to the surface winds. The return flight was even stranger: I got at about 3000 ft the Innsbruck (LOWI-11120, that's over 200 NM to the northeast) top level winds (210/14) up to my cruising level of 30000 ft. Never got again a Swiss wind, than I got the 10618 winds, now showing correctly and varying with altitude till the surfce winds. The same was the following day with a different set of winds, from Frankfurt (EDDF) to Lyon (LFLL): leaving EDDF, got 10618 winds at 3000 ft, the same winds up to cruise (FL310), then I finally got a Swiss station, then the corrects winds changing with altitude at LFLL. Return flight: again the Innsbruck station from LFLL (!!!, 400 NM), from 3000 ft up to FL320, no changes in altituide, then again descendin to EDDF the correct 10618 winds.Summanry: weird winds on departure, no changes from about 3000 ft upwards, sometimes not the correct station, correct winds enroute, correct winds on arrival. For what I can say, the temperatures were correct.Any idea ?Many thanks.Enrico. Flying from Frankfurt to Lyon I got about 280/79 kts out of 3000 ft and up to 30000 ft. Thw WMO ID was 10618 (fairly close to EDDF) and I checked the .wmo file that was showing different winds at different altitudes.
April 22, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi,Thanks for all that info but it is very confusing. I am not sure I understand. You are saying you never get wind changes from 3000 to 30000 ft? You are getting wrong stations, and the values are incorrect? I am unable to duplicate any of this so please send me screenshots of you main, runtime, and shift-z screens when this occurs so I can investigate.. Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 23, 200323 yr Hi Damian, sorry for maybe I was confusing, I put too many data.I try to summarize:I'm getting on departure no winds changes from about 3000 ft up to crusing altitudes (about 30-32000 ft). Sometimes I also get the wrong station, but not always (it happened twice: from Milan Malpensa LIMC and Lyon St.Exupery LFLL, both tuned to LOWI, Innsbruck, WMO ID 11120, despite having good wind data for both nearby stations).I'm getting good winds enroute (not always, but this is surely a "missing data" in the .wmo file, so no problem for this) and also good temperatures (flying with the PSS Airbuses the SAT is displayed and is consistent with altitudes).I'm getting good winds on arrival with proper stations.I checked the winds data and were all correct.I have FSUIPC newest version available installed and properly configured for winds transitions, the force range is set a 80 NM, got also TAF processing amd wake turbulence enabled.I'll try to duplicate again this behaviour next weekend and manage to send you screenshots. Many thanks for your help.Enrico.
April 25, 200323 yr Hello Enrico,Activesky isn't handling the winds aloft in offline mode correctly (see also my thread about this on the forum). When I tried in offline mode to fly from Rotterdam EHRD, the program is consitantly looking for WMO ID 10410, which is Essen in Germany, although there is a valid data for the station in Holland in the windsxx.wmo. Even with valid data for both the dutch station and Essen, it comes up with incorrect wind data. Instead of reading the data for WMO ID 10410, it will ends up at a altitude of 10410 and processes the data there after. Damian is aware of this and needs to be corrected.Regards,Niek
April 25, 200323 yr Commercial Member Thanks Niek,Yes this sounds like the offline bug you are referring to. This will be fixed very soon.. Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 28, 200323 yr Thank to all for the tips on the offline bug.So, OK, I expect a patch on the "wrong" station tuning.I also managed to cure the "one wind only", from 3000 ft up to the stratosphere...And I succeded: it seems that at least in offline mode, if one line of the WMO report says "99999" on the winds, wxRE seems to hang on the lower winds and stops simulating the higher winds data. I tried many times and I can report that, if the wind report doesn't contain any line with "99999" on winds values (direction and velocity), wxRE accurately reproduces the winds varying with altitude in exact accordance with the .wmo file.If any patch could be made to enable "skipping" the "99999" lines...Many thanks and thumbs up on your valuable work, Damian !Enrico
April 30, 200323 yr Hello there Damian,I have noticed something else too. Which station I use, there is ALWAYS exactly 20 degrees offset in windindication. When stationed at meigs, Wxre gives me a surfacewind of 40
May 1, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Luc thanks for the report.. I found a problem with the wind translation / conversion logic and it has been fixed for RC4..As far as pressure data goes, have you waited for smoothing to occur? .01-.03 pressure differences are normal occasionally but .45 is just wrong.. can you send a screenshot if this happens again? Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
May 1, 200323 yr Ok Damian,I will first try out RC4 today.I have seen something else a few days ago, but only one or twice and then no more. Changing airports while Wxre was running made for a confusing situation. I started out at Meigs, got the weather, changed to JFK and got the weather ... of Meigs. Refreshing didn't do the trick at the time and only restarting the program cleared the problem. Probably just a hickup of my system bust weird nonetheless.By the way... thanks for a graet program.Luc
