FS2002 crashes

Featured Replies

Hi guysI have just purchased ActiveSky wxRE, but the program keeps crashing FS2002.I have the recommended FSUIPC settings set, so can't really figure out what causes the crash. The error messages I get is "FS2002 hasencoutered a problem and need to close/restart."The problem always occurs while in-flight, and it is quite annoying.Anyone knows what causes the problem?Regards Michael

Hello Michael,Crashes have been reported before but in the end it was never wxRE's fault but rather scenery bugs (VERY COMMON with 3rd party scenery), video driver problems or OS setting problems. wxRE and FS2002 require plenty of resources and there is something wrong in your setup that is causing this when the resources get low.You may also want to lower your "cloud density" slider a bit (refer to documentation). In the future may I please request that topics such as "ActiveSky keeps crashing FS2002" be avoided. Remember that this is one of the places that potential buyers come to evaluate the add-on and without new customers wxRE will cease to exist. In the past wxRE has been blamed on crashes, and as stated, it has always been another problem with the user's FS2002 setup. You can search the forum to see this common theme. I have thus edited your topic. Thanks! Hope you understand!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hi Michael What operating system r you using it could be sound lock up problem..............regards Kiwi pilot

Hello DamianThanks for your reply.I was reporting my problems because I NEVER have had a lock-up/error report with FS2002 and other add-ons. But when I changed my exsisting weather program with ActiveSky, each and every flight crashes. Now I have done 3 flight with another weather program, and with the settings recommended for ActiveSky - no problems with this.I'm not writing here to tell other people that ActiveSky only causes crashes of FS2002. Only that I have problems with it, and is asking for help. I fit would work properbly, it seems like the best wether program I have tried so far.Regards Michael

Hi KiwiMaybe it could be a sound problem, don't know yet....My system:FS2002 running on:WinXP PROAMD 1800 CPU512 Mb DDR Mem.SoundBlaster Live soundcard...pleny of HD space and system ressourses free.Regards Michael

Hi Michael,Have you changed any other thing about your FS2002 installation? Any scenery or aircraft additions? There is a sound issue on some systems where problems will occur during voice playback of flightwatch. You didn't mention where the problem occurs (it sounds random). If it's always crashing in the same spot let me know.. Either way the fix in this case is to disable sound acceleration in dxdiag.Have you scanned for viruses lately? I am just trying all possibilities. As stated wxRE does not have one report yet of confirmed crashes caused and in the dozen or so cases in the past it ended up being something wrong with FS2002 installation usually due to bad scenery or aircraft (or video driver probs). You mention everything works fine without wxRE which is a first. The only thing wxRE does is talk via FSUIPC, provide UI and some basic file access routines - any problems here would show up as a runtime error in wxRE, not a crash in FS2002.My only guess at this point is that with wxRE loaded you are having resource problems. This app DOES require some overhead and maybe it is pushing your system over the edge. Have you tried disabling other add-ons, virus programs, windows apps, etc. to see if the situation improves? Tried reinstalling directx? Tried reinstalling VB runtime files (worth a shot - search microsoft.com for VB6 runtime re-distribution pack)?Let me know, and please share any other info you can come up with.. I'd like to help you get this fixed!
