Internet connection

Damian,I have been working quite satisfactorily with ActiveSky v1.5, connecting to the internet with no problems through my current Internet Provider(which isn't a portal type,it just connects you to the internet).Recently I tried AOL(the 120 hs free trial).I found out that the connection stability of AOL is excellent, but also that ActiveSKy doesn't go at all on line.Is this happening because AOL is a portal and doesn't respond to ActiveSky perhaps(I would find it strange)? Is there any way around the problem? Thanks.Carlo

Hi Carlo,We are talking about wxRE correct?Other AOL users have reported problems in the past, but none recently. I am under the impression that v1.6+ solves any connect problems, and you may have to use the proxy server settings for proper operation. Perhaps some other AOL users can chime in and help share their settings. I would check now but my test AOL account just expired and I do not plan to re-new. FWIW, I DO NOT RECOMMEND using AOL for use with ActiveSky wxRE. Satisfactory results are just not possible with this service during most hours of the day (just like using any direct internet communication over AOL is very unstable). On the other hand, most other ISPs have scored very highly on the reliability scale. Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Damian, actually I am using your first(I assume) free download software ActiveSky 2002(v1.5),not wxRE.I tried again with AOL,and the strange thing is that through the AOL connection I can promply get the FS2002 Real Weather, whereas with ActiveSky it won't downoad at all,i.e I get heavy fog on the runaway and the message "download" going on forever without result. Can you make any sense out of this?I thought AOL would give a more stable connection, but you do not advise it.If so,I have no reason to change ISP.Ciao.Carlo F.P.S. I'm told that AOL does't really use the WWW,rather an internal AOL web.If so,it would explain why ActiveSky 2002 can't connect, but what about FS2002 Real Weather?

AOL uses proxy server. 2002 ActiveSky doesn't support that. wxRE does. Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Also to add: FS supports AOL because MS knew many households were using AOL at the time of release.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
