High tempreture at high altitude

Featured Replies

Hello all I downloaded the weather last night for a flight from Amstredam to Madrid the same way i have always done. My cruising altitude was FL330,when i reached cruising level the first thing i noticed that there was no contrails, when i looked at the tempreture it was +8. I dont know what it should be at that altitude but i think it should be colder than that. I am using version 1.9 with version 3.04 of FSUIPC. Have i done some thing wrong which has lead to this high tempreture. Thanks in advance Shaun

Hi Shaun,How did you "look at the temperature" ? FS Gauges for temperature are problematic, they and they use a SAT (surface temp) value which is supposed to increase with airspeed, but the effect is way overdone. The only way to verify in FS is to look at the "Temp" value (left column) in the wxRE status screen and apply lapse rate conversion based on your altitude, OR, slow your aircraft down to stall speed and check the temp on the gauge. Typically at FL330 you should have around -30 to -40 deg temps. If you send a screenshot with the wxRE status, main, and FS in-flight (with temp gauge showing) I can verify all of this for you.. Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

I see the same, but only under fs9- it's common for me to be in the mid 30's with a tat of 20C (surface in the 20's). I know for a fact that there is not enough aerodynamic heating at FL320 M.785 to make things that warm! Under fs2002, things work out fine- TAT well below freezing.Tim

Hi,Hmmm.. just tested some various locations, and am not seeing this problem... If you encounter this again please share the METAR/aloft wind report and the FS winds, highlighting the difference.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table
