AS2004 Problem FS9 crashes on weather update

Featured Replies

Hi All,I seem to be the first one here that has a bigger problem than no radar returns. I have been using Active Sky all the way through 1.92 so when 2004 was available I raced to get it. I went to SimMarket and thought I'd get a $10 discount but that did not happen. Mhm oh well if it's as good as it looked it's worth the whole price, so no Damian I am good there. I got my DL unzipped it and read and followed the manuals instructions on the install and setup. Started FS and again following the instructions reset weather and the other sliders as recommended. Started AS2004 and got a new weather DL. No problem up to this point. As soon as the green banner appeared in the FS window.....bang FS9 has experienced a serious problem and needs to shut down. Well it had happened before AS2004 on occasion with a new plane or such so no panic yet. Restarted the sim, followed procedure to clear weather with FSUIPC and started AS2004 again. DL complete ...green banner...bang.Ok I'm going to make it a little shorter and get to the jist of things.1. Renamed FS9.cfg and let FS make a new one. --> same result 2. Uninstalled AS2004 and re-installed -->same result3. Installed AS2004 on WideFS PC...came here read the other topic -->same result.4. Removed only the Active Radar Folder from my FS9Modules folder --> weather transfer complete...no problem but of course no radar. Here is where I have to admit I have no more ideas as to where to go. I like what I see but I would sure like to have the Radar working ;-)I am still trying to get the radar depictions everytime on FSFlightmax.I have registered versions of WideFS and FSUIPC and as mentioned above FSFlightmax and FSGarmin530/430 but other than being present in the system Max and Garmin were not active on either the attempt with single FS PC or the WideFS attempt.Maybe someone out there has a bright idea what I can do to get this to run as it is supposed to.For now Happy Holidays to all.Happy LandingsSunny :-cool

Sunny,Sorry you are having trouble. First lets turn off the green banner and see if that's it. It's under Options, Disable Text Messages. Pleas try this and post back. We'll get you up and running. Also, some system specs will help us.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jim,sorry I took so long to respond to you assist. I was back in my native Germany over the Holidays and just now came back to California where all my PCs are hangared.I'll check your tip and see if it makes a difference or not and add another post to this topic. The strange thing to me is that the program seems to work fine if I remove the Radar folder.Sunny

Questions:1. Did you ever have Weather Center installed? If yes, then WC must be totally un-installed.2. Are you running on a single machine or a networked set-up?JimActiveSky Support

HiI've got exactly the same problem. I also got the $10 discount version from SimMarket.Flying from EGJJ to EGTE got about half way between the two, AS2004 updated the weather, FS9 went to a black screen with only the mouse pointer on, thrashed at the hard drive for 20-30 seconds then crashed to the desktop. FS9 reported an error in the facilities.dll module. FS9 works perfectly if AS2004 is not updating the weather or is not running.I have the latest FSUIPC (registered)and applied the service patch to AS2004.Hope someone can help!

Need system specs! That particular dll does not have anything to do with AS2004. Drivers up to date? Please keep us posted!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi, this is not related to the original issue, which was isolated to use of ActiveRadar. Sounds like a scenery issue. Have any add-on scenery in that area? AS2004 doesn't do anything except send data to FSUIPC. FSUIPC in turn sets memory areas in FS to facilitate weather depiction. In all the reports we've received of crashes, they have always found to be related to drivers, scenery, WC2 being installed, ActiveCamera key not being re-assigned, or hardware conflicts. The reason you notice the problem with AS2004 is probably related to the fact that you have more resources being used due to clouds and other weather being depicted.Very common... I suggest full driver updates and disabling any add-on scenery. Also, while I am not too familiar with it, many folks claim there is an inherent FS9 bug that causes crashes due to the winter season and very specific areas.. search main FS forum for plenty of info and documented solution...Does this help?Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

Hi All,Again I have to appologize for being tardy with my replies, but lately I was too busy flying the real thing and did not spend too much time on the sim. I have since my last post uninstalled AS2004 from the main FS PC and installed it on the networked PC that is running my copies of Flightmax and Garmin530. I used the connector program to get this setup running and it fixed the problem for the most part. I think the remaining CTDs i have seen since may very well be related to FS/System issues and have nothing to do at all with AS2004. All system drivers are up to date and no add on scenery is used, but a healthy dose of add on planes. I think the hint about the winter posing a new problem may be something to look at for me now. Thanks for your help Damian and Jim

Thanks for the update.JimActiveSky Support
