January 13, 200422 yr Hi,There are two things that I don't like in FS2004 built-in weather (using download automatic update):1) Say you have a fog ground layer with 3000 ft ceiling and 1/4NM visibility. When taking off and climbing, you can see the airport and ground disappear in the fog. But as soon as you pop over 3000, you suddenly can see the ground and airport through the fog.Is this adressed in AS2004? 2) The clouds seem to only be drawn up to a certain distance in a circle area around the aircraft (I have all visibility and cloud drawing options set to MAX).Is this better in AS 2004? From all the posts I've read, it seems that there is a "global" option that I understand would improve that.I also have one question about the "Flight plan loading" feature. What do you loose if you don't load the flight plan in AS2004? I understand you loose the expected weather reports, but what else? Would it change something in how the transitions are made for example (I guess if AS2004 knows in advance where you are going, it can better prepare itself...)Thanks.Eric.
January 13, 200422 yr Hi Eric,1). I used to hate this as well. In ActiveSky i find that the low visibility tends to last til higher altitudes which i like (rather than disappearing at 2000ft). It also has visibility smoothing so changes are more smoother. The FS download weather seems to set visibility to unlimited after you hit about 2000ft or something which AC2004 doesnt appear to do (fortunately :)2). I have never noticed this in ActiveSky.San.
January 13, 200422 yr Eric,Thanks for your interest in our product!Planning=Ability to know destination weather conditions. With a plan with multiple waypoints, the ability to know enroute weather. Smoother wind transitions. Winds data. Estimated time of flight.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
January 13, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Eric AS2004 has fog layer generation.. when vis less than 3 a stratus layer will be created. While this effect isn't perfect, its a bit better. We are also working on a new overcast effect as discussed in other threads, which may make this MUCH better...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
