Real Weather differences FS9 > AS2004

Featured Replies

Hi,I have used AS2004 for the first time and don't know if this has been reported before:I am at EMAM airport.I uploaded current weather in FS9 and got RAIN from Jeppesen.I uploaded current weather in AS2004 and got SNOW from their server.I cleared weather in FSUIPC before each upload.I was very pleased to get snow and took a quick look outside my window, expecting to see real snow as I am living 30 km from Schiphol airport.What did I see: RAIN...What causes the difference? METAR has cycles every hour while AS2004 has only four cycles per 24 hour?Thanks,RudoBTW: during my first flight (with the SNOW), I got tossed around the localizer and glideslope in my Chessna due to severe winds. Turning Wake Turb. off didn't make a difference! Landed on Autopilot without much problems despite the wind ;-)

What are your AS2004 settings?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

>What are your AS2004 settings?>>Hope this helps,>Jim>ActiveSky SupportHi Jim,I wil take a look at them tonight. I am sure I setup FS9 and AS2004 according to the AS2004 manual...Thanks,Rudo

Sometime I wonder how well the active sky product actually works up here in Stockholm. I have the same "problem" as you as I live 10 km from ESSB and not so far from ESSA. Often I have a total missmatch if you compare fs with reality. As an example last evening there were low clouds covering all the sky in reality but in FS it was clear sky. The day befeore at ESSA I got snow with almost no visibility but in reality the sky was clear.//Johannes

Hi,Those experiencing this in that area, please supply the METAR report AS2004 is using.. is this consistent? Is TAF processing on or off? -Damian

Rudo, thanks for the info.. please see my other post in this thread as well..FS9 and AS2004 SHOULD be different. In our tests the FS9 data is old most of the time.Our data comes from updates every 10 minutes (most stations send their weather every hour, 10 minutes before the top of the hour, but send more frequent updates if weather is changing rapidly), and this is the first time I've heard of a discrepency in the METAR compared to real life.. perhaps it is related to another issue some users are experiencing, where loading a flight plan can cause the departure weather to assume the destination weather. They have reported the solution is to do a REFRESH, but I still am unable to duplicate so testing continues in this regard...Are you using the alpha update?In any case, METAR strings would be very helpful... Thanks!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

Hi Demian,This was the METAR string AS2004 used (I think; I did not save the wx-file)EHAM::EHAM 142025Z 32006KT 8000 -RASN FEW010 SCT012 BKN022 02/01 Q0993 TEMPO 6000 SCT008 BKN012::*::319,032,03.4/325,032,-03.7/326,030,-07.2/333,022,-18.9/332,014,-34.5/307,011,-48.7/292,018,-54.8/294,039,-51.6/290,043,-50.7This could also be the wx provided with AS2004, I don't know!I have uploaded the Alpha update and will install later tonight.Thanks,Rudo

I don't know for sure but see the -RASN symbol. If I am correct, that means a mix of rain and snow. FS can only show one of these events and displays the rain because it is listed first.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

I believe -RASN was the correct forecast for EHAM yesterday. We call this "wet snow", indeed a mix of rain and snow. So the wx-files are the same, only FS differs from AS2004 in its interpretation?It was a h*ll of a flight BTW ;-)Thanks for the replies,Rudo

Right, because the FS graphics engine can only show one or the other not both. Maybe in the future???Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

This is occuring every time I load a flight plan. Maybe you were just stating that you can't resolve it by performing a REFRESH. With that I agree, but the departure same as destination issue does exist. Are just some people experiencing this?

Hi Dykes,I cannot duplicate this issue at all... strange, I know...I've tried over 50 times now (at least 50 flight plans). It seems everyone BUT me is experiencing this - making it real hard to troubleshoot. I've tried suggested flight plans, locations, settings, FSUIPC versions, etc.. nothing yet. I am preparing to test on 3 different machines and OS's tomorrow... Any other input on this appreciated!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

OK, thanks. I can't imagine why you can't duplicate it. Well I do have one idea just sitting here thinking about it.By any chance are you running a current version that did not require a patch overlay? In other words you've got a complete master and only if you take 1.0 and patch it would the problem creep in.
