MR1 Build 90 - Losing Destination Cloud Cover

Featured Replies

Would appreciate hearing from anyone experiencing the following:Flying in OFFLINE mode with default AS2004 (latest build) settings, flight plan loaded. FS9 cloud draw distance is at 60 miles. As I approached my destination, about 60 miles out, I pickup the FS9 ATIS which reports my destination weather as, for instance, 800 overcast in light rain which is in perfect agreement with the AS2004 metar. Later at 30 to 40 miles out, AS2004 updates (scrolling metar), and my destination ATIS changes to "sky conditions clear". Indeed, when I get to my destination, I fly into clear conditions. This is happening on almost every flight as I near my destination. The only way I have been able to stop this "clearing" cloud cover phenomena is to set my FS9 cloud draw distance to maximum. Thanks for any advice on this.

Hi there,It may be related to the incomplete data that was around earlier. I have no reports of such clearing except as related to the bad data. Try a new download or get an archive just to make sure the data is good.Interesting about FS9's cloud draw distance solving things though. Let me know if it continues with another download and I'll look into it some more..Thanks!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

Also, are you using TAF processing? This could account for expected changing wx conditions... don't know if its related but worth mentioning.Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

Damian,I continue to experience cloud cover clearing at my destination after the final (close in) AS2004 update. This does not happen all the time, but is happening a lot. I've been flying into mostly rural general aviation fields. I sent you an e-mail (support@hifisim) about 2 days ago with a PLN and weather file for a flight where this is happening. Again, setting FS9 cloud draw distance to max seems to resolve the issue, but also kills my framerates.I'm using the dx FSW cloud testures. I'll try the 32 bit and see if that helps.

Dykes,I apologize, but I either haven't received or have misplaced your e-mail regarding this. Could you please send it again directly to [email protected]? It would be much appreciated. I will try to duplicate and will report back on my findings... Thanks!-Damian

Hi Dykes,Found the e-mail, but was unable to receive the wx snapshot in tact. I tested with a similar wx set and was not able to reproduce. Please try with an archive and let me know which one you can reproduce with. Thanks!!-Damian

Damian,Before I retransmit the files, here is my latest observation. I went back to the 32 bit FSW cloud set before my latest test flight. I am using the same AS2004 weather file every time I fly this test flight. I left FS9 cloud draw distance at 60 miles. My destination metar, according to AS2004, was -RA (light rain), overcast 500 (005OVC).I tuned the FS9 ATIS for my destination so that I would pick it up as soon as I got within range. At about 60 miles out I picked up the ATIS which was reporting "sky conditions clear". AS2004 updated shortly after this and the ATIS continued to report "sky conditions clear". AS2004 updated again at about 40 miles out and the FS9 ATIS continued to report "sky conditions clear". At about 20 miles out AS2004 updated again and this time the ATIS report changed to "light rain, overcast 500". Conditions at the field were as reported and in good agreement with AS2004. This is the first time I have achieved accurate weather at my destination on this test flight.I really doubt that the change to the 32 bit FSW cloud set has anything to do with all this, but then again, it is the only thing I changed.Does any of the above give you any clue as to what might be going on with destination weather?I will transmit the PLN and AS2004 weather file for this flight as you requested.By the way every thing else is working well. Good overcast cloud formations along my route, no cloud pops, manageable wind shifts, etc.Thanks.
