March 7, 200422 yr Hi all,Great product, however I have one small problem I keep having the above problem whilst on short final, I have been blaming the buses as I have just re-installed them following all the problems they have had. However it just happened again but this time I noticed AS 2004 said "end of wake turbulence" I guess this is my problem? Could someone confirm this and if so give me a cure to prevent it.Many Thanks, Garry.
March 7, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Garry,Yes, this was a wake event. You can either a) disable wake turbulence in AS2004 options or :( ensure that you're safely 2-3 miles behind a preceding landing aircraft. On runways with parallel approaches it is sometimes hard to get ATC to separate you like this, so make sure you fly a high approach path well above the preceding / parallel aircraft.Hope that helps!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 7, 200422 yr Thanks Damian,I have disabled it! Don't want to lose any more hours, great feature, too realistic for my skill!!Cheers, Garry.
March 7, 200422 yr Hello,On wake turbulence subject... say, how does Activesky detect other aircraft? How does it know how far you are from another one? So far I know, another a/c positions are not being reported. Just interested to know how. :)Thx!
March 8, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,It is read into AS2004 via FSUIPC AI aircraft information every five seconds for a condition check. We compute distance and relative vector by using traditional lat/lon formulas from the user aircraft position. If the aircraft is within 2 miles and you are trailing it within 15 degrees, within 500ft of its flight path, you will trigger a wake event. Strength of the wake depends on ATC Callsign (those with N or a hyphen in the callsign are considered smaller/ga aircraft, and those without are considered commercial/larger, with larger effect). Also the setting "Increased wake effects" can make the whole experience more challenging (it usually results in complete loss of control). Hope that helps! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 8, 200422 yr "(it usually results in complete loss of control)."- rofl! not something i'd want when finishing 12 hours online flight for BAV! ;-)Okay, well that idea sounds great when flying with AI. Although, I have exactly 0 AI aircraft installed in my FS, since all I do is fly on the VATSIM, and always online. Either no ATC or online ATC. Which pulls the whole new question, does this "via FSUIPC read into AS2004" works also with online multiplayer aircraft when playing online? Thanks for the previous answer Damian!
March 9, 200422 yr Well, if the wake turbulence is small in case the callsign contains a hyphen, then what about "S-TAIL" (callsign for SN Brussels Airlines)?I assume further that the small turbulence effect is only triggered when the callsign STARTS with an "N", followed by a hyphen, otherwise it would make no sense. (there are so many airline callsigns with an "N")But my main point and question is: Has the "TCAS id string from" field on FSUIPC's technical tab be set to "Flight", to have the callsign is communicated? If yes, the users of AS2K4 should know that. I know for sure that there is at least another addon (FS HotSeat) which requires the "Type+" setting on that field.thanks for any infoKurt
March 10, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Kurt,N or hyphen triggers the small effect. With S-TAIL unfortunately this means smaller effect. If you change the callsign to not have a hyphen then it would work properly. There or only very few exceptions with the hyphen.Yes, Flight set for TCAS ID (default). Will modify the docs in future to make this more clear. Thanks!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
