Rapid weather transitions

Featured Replies

I've gone through and tried everything on this subject I can find in these forums and nothing is helping on my system. I've having the problems with the weather transitioning instantly from one extreme to another. Ex. Clear skies at one moment to heavy clouds 360 degrees around me in a blink. Here is my setting file...please help. Note: TAF is currently off, although the problem persists in both on/off positions.//AS2004 configuration file[General]WindowPosX = 5160WindowPosY = 5205DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesActiveSky2004SuppressionCeiling = 3000SurfaceWindLimit = 10CloudLayerLimit = 5LocalSuppressionRange = 100MinimumVisibility = 0MaximumVisibility = 50IncreasedWake = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseForceDestinationWeatherZone = FalsePreventIcing = FalseOnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseGlobalWrites = FalseVoicePlayback = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueRouteWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = FalseLimitCloudLayers = FalseAutoGlobalWriteToggle = TrueCCWindsFix = TrueDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = TrueAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 15VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = -5TAFProcessing = FalseEnforceVisibilityLimits = TrueWakeTurb = FalseStartPaused = FalseUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEThanks for any help.Tim

Hi Tim,Sorry you are having trouble. When you get a chance I want you to try the following:In FS make sure dynamic weather change is set to none.In FSUIPC make sure you are using weather minimums. In AS: Supression Ceiling = 10000Local Supression Range=50Enforce Visibility Limits=FalseKeep TAFs OFFPost your results when you get a chance.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim, sorry for the delay..been a bit busy. I've gone through and made the changes you specified and they haven't seemed to help. I was talking with a friend online while in FS and told him the spot I was currently seeing an issue and he loaded up his and duplicated the same occurence on his AS2004. I guess what I'm getting at is that the situation I'm seeing is easy to replicate and may just be a flaw in the MS weather coding in the sim. Just a quick note on the location of this particular occurence....I took off from KDAL which has a METAR station on the airport and flew the pattern while climbing . Weather was rainy and stormy even and kept this weather until I hit near the suppression range. At which time the weather reloads and I go from storms and heavy cloud cover to unlimited visibility and clear skies in my direct proximity. There were still heavy clouds to the north east, but all surrounding clouds which should have still been there were no longer around and the transition is instant. Do I have a correct assessment on this problem? Thanks for any help, Tim

Hi Tim,OK let me try it. I know you leave from KDAL, but then what? Give me a few details and I'll check it out and report back.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

JimI kinda said it in the post. We were having storms and rain here around KDAL. I took off from KDAL in FS and circled the airport while climbing at 1500fpm. The weather looked perfect until I hit the suppression range at which time the weather reloaded and I had unlimited visibility with clouds to the north/northeast only. I then descended back down to the airport while still circling and the weather turned back to stormy at the suppression level and was fine down to the ground. Kinda confusuing explanation for a quite simple task, but should be followable. Tim

Hi Tim,I believe you mean suppression altitude, not suppression range. It really sounds like a known issue with v1.0. Do you have at least MR1 update installed?-Damian

Ok, let me see if I can answer all of these. 1)I'm not running any weather themes. I've started on both clear skies and user defined and received the same results with each.2)I'm currently using v1.1 build 90. As far as I know that is the most current version not in beta. And yes supression altitude is what I meant.I really appreciate all of your assistance guys. I'm beginning to believe that the issue I'm having is with fs9 and not your product. I may also just be expecting too much out of fs9 which it's just not capable of. The particular night that I was getting the results at KDAL was 100% accurate while underneath the suppression altitude, but not when above it. These same results were produced at the same exact time on a friends system while talking over teamspeak. Maybe you guys could shed some light on the limits of fs9 and if I may be on the right track with my thoughts? Thanks, Tim
