Unstable internet error

Featured Replies

I'm getting, during the internet connection at initialization, the "unstable internet connection" error. This is not really an ActiveSky issue, but maybe someone can help. I have 56k dial-up, and have never had issues with it before, but I cannot get real time weather in AS or in FS2004. Furthermore, when I try real time weather from within FS2004, I get the "trouble with internet connection, check your configuration" error message. However, I can find no problem with that. I tried Microsoft's FAQ suggestions, but no luck. I am able to connect with the mszone site to check internet connectivity with microsoft's weather server, and that works fine. In all other uses, my internet connection seems fine. This is driving me nuts! I've tried most everything I can think of including deleting the FS config file and re-installing FS, and of course checking all my internet stuff. Perhaps someone out there has had this problem, and can tell me the error of my ways. Thanks,Keith

Hi Jim!It is a dedicated line. I don't seem to want to fly without real world weather, so I appreciate your response.Keith

Hi Keith,2 suggestions:1) If you have a firewall (hardware or software) make sure that it is configured properly to accept AS2004. AS2004 uses standard web ports, but FS2004's real wx uses special online ports (I don't have these port #'s handy but they are available in the MS FAQ I believe).2) Contact your ISP and have them check out the connection to www.hifisim.com. There could be a routing issue preventing full throughput.Does this help?-Damian

I'm also having the same problem. I use Cable Modem and I completely unloaded my firewall software and antivirus software. In fact I'm using FSAutoStart to turn off all unnecessary programs. I have no problems if I don't load ActiveSky and use FS' real world weather. Can you guys help? Thanks.

Hi, Jim.I had the same problem even without FS AutoStart. I am able to go to www.hifisim.com.Thanks.

If using XP is that firewall running? Damian may be by soon for more ideas. I don't have any more!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi, Jim.Nope, that firewall isn't running.Thanks.

Hi, Jim.I was getting it on startup. After it initializes, I get that message.HOWEVER! I solved it (I hope :)).I'm using Norton Internet Security. Even though I've heard bad things about it, I've used it for years with no problems. What I did was I added ActiveSky manually to the list of programs it keeps track of. Even though NIS isn't running (either as a service or as a program), I guess there's something in the background that keeps track of it. It's working now and I hope it'll continue working. Thanks for the help everyone.
