Not getting precip

Featured Replies

Hello,Lately I've noticed that I'm not getting precipatation even though there are thunderstorms around, I'm under the clouds. Sometimes I do get precip though so maybe they are dry thunderstorms? Also, is the activeradar module required for activesky to work properly? I removed it since I use the reality XP radar and the key commands for Activeradar were interfering with some other addon modules. Anyways all I need to know is if the Activeradar module is required for activesky to work properly, such as positioning precipitation or not. Thanks,

Hi David,About a month ago I was seeing this same type of thing so I wrote Damian about it. What I learned is that the TS code does not mean that it is raining. RA or SN/mixed must also be included. No, AR module does not need to be installed. Pretty sure I answered this at the other place, but no problem answering here also!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Thanks Jim, that explains it then. In furthur testing I would hit pockets of rain around these storms so it worked quite well in the end, It just was that when flying on IFR flightplans I never went into the rain pockets, but a little exploring and I was set. Also thanks for letting me know about hte AR module as well. It was a great module and I really appreciated how it was included with activesky, but I now use the Reality XP Wx500 so I did not use AR anymore.

I think it is safe to say that there can be some drift in preceip below cloud level depending on their AGL and wind currents below them. In real world travel I have often (on the ground) been below TRWs but did not encounter precip until on the fringes. I do not know how well that is modeled in FS.Perhaps that is why some precip is encountered in what appears to be in CAVOK conditions between storm cells.Be aware that Reality-XP's WX500 seems to have an aknowledged minor difficulty in interpreting precip returns below overcast clouds and that problem is being worked on. Precip within clouds is well interpreted according to my experiences and don't forget to allow for the masking effect of precip hiding behind stronger returns nearer the aircraft. The AS Radar module will not run on my system so I can't compare.Always a pleasure to read your postings.
