New user questions: Temperatures aloft and FlightWatch ...

Featured Replies

Hello there!I bought AS2004 last week and finally had a chance to try it. I use AS2004 v1.1, FSUIPC v.3.22. Here are several questions I got from the first test flights.1. Temperatures aloft and Windows regional settings. I use German version of Windows XP Home, and the native regional setting are

Hi Peter,Thanks for the purchase and welcome!1. May be causing a display problem but the data may be accurate. We have many international users and none have reported this before. Best suggestion is to try a flight andsee if the temps show up correctly in FS. The decimals show up due to the data sources.2. Try the MR2 beta and see if that helps.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,Thank you very much for your prompt reply! This support forum is really great!>We have many international users and none have>reported this before. That's what I thought. Was absolutely surprised that I did not find postings about regional settings! This should affect other international users as well. > Best suggestion is to try a flight > and see if the temps show up correctly in FS. Weatherset2 shows that the temps are OK.> The decimals show>up due to the data sources.I see, thank you. Please file my suggestion for the new version of AS2004 to filter out temperature decimals from the source data. ;-)>2. Try the MR2 beta and see if that helps.Thank you. I will try and report the results. Did not install MR2 yet because of the required FSUIPC v3.30 which is a major upgrade. Thought I better wait for a week. Do you know if FSUIPC v3.31 will be released soon? ;-) Once again, thanks for you reply!Peter

Peter,In Control panel you can customize just the numbers in your regional settings. Not sure if this would mess up other things you use your computer for!Weatherset2 is getting its data from FSUIPC. But how do the temps look in FS?V3.3 is stable. Not sure on 3.31. Pete is working slowly, but surely.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Jim,Thank you very much for your prompt help!>In Control panel you can customize just the numbers in>your regional settings. Not sure if this would mess up>other things you use your computer for! That's why I would not change these settings from the native to be sure that I have compatibility with Excel files and other application files created on other computers. As long as FS gets the correct temps, I can leave with these funny looking aloft temperature. Just a bit more decoding... :-)>Weatherset2 is getting its data from FSUIPC. >But how do the temps look in FS?Could you please explain this to me? I thought that WeatherSet gets the FS temps *via* FSUIPC. In other words, I thought that FSUIPC just provides Weatherset2 a possibility to access these temps stored within FS. Do you mean that FSUIPC stores the temps somewhere, and FS gets them from this "in-between" location? Anyway, here is a table which shows how the temperatures are presented by FS. (Actually, when asking this question my hope was that someone else already reported the same problem and you know the answer already, so I would not need to perform this experiment... :-) )METAR:CYYC 111200Z 34008KT 30SM FEW050 FEW080 FEW250 10/08 A2983 RMK CU1AC1CI1 TR CU/AC SLP101ALOFT:FL030: 230/06 (14.6) FL060: 223/06 (8.2) FL090: 232/10 (6.0)FL120: 214/20 (-3.9) FL180: 194/32 (-19.2) FL240: 190/48 (-31.8)FL300: 187/56 (-39.0) FL340: 200/50 (-44.3) FL390: 206/33 (-43.2) AS2004 "." Hi Peter,You are a most welcome customer already! You give us the data and report your findings. You are correct in the way Weather Set works. All the date looks fine. The small differences come in when FS assigns its built-in randomness to the data. All is fine with the settings on your computer. Go fly and have fun!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,Just istalled and tried AS2004 MR2 B115 (and FSUIPC 3.30) . The problem with the discrepancies between the voice and message of the FlightWatch on 122.00 is still there (and reproducible). I tested this for CYYC, weather file 2004071112Z.Could you please check if you can reproduce this problem on your setup?Regards,Peter

Hi Peter,Thanks for the report... This has been identified and fixed in the latest build, currently in private beta testing. Should be available for public beta in a few days. Thanks!

Hi Damian and Jim,Great! Thanks for improving the program! I really love this support forum! There is another minor point with AS2004 MR2 B115 I noticed yesterday: The option "Upper Layer Generation" puts the clouds not above the upper reported layer, but below it. (It looks like I was really lucky with aiport and date selection for my test flights! :-))The METAR was:CYYC 111200Z 34008KT 30SM FEW050 FEW080 FEW250 10/08 A2983RMK CU1AC1CI1 TR CU/AC SLP101 The program created additional layer at 22000. Suggestion: may be the upper layer generation should be suppressed for the locations where high clouds are already reported by METAR? Hope these notes will help to improve AS2004 which I like very much.Regards,Peter

Thanks Peter,Those clouds were really up there. Yes, right now the only thing to do is disable that option.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
