August 4, 200421 yr First off, this is a great addon - really adds to the realism and gives some fantastic views out the window: however, its made some of my landings a bit tricky in some tough weather conditions! :-)I'm running AS2004 Beta MR2 (Build 115) and FSHotSeat 2.2.448. FSUIPC 3.300. FSHotSeat gives a full weather briefing on the ground as part of the pre-engine start checklist. The departure and cruise height Wx are fine. However, whatever the weather enroute or at the destination, the briefing says no significant enroute weather and destination 59/51 no wind, viz 90SM (i.e. defaults). Once in the air, FSHotSeat weather reports enroute are fine, and closer to the destination, arrival weather reports are OK too.It would seem that AS2004 is only setting the local WX stations in FS2004, so when FSHotSeat reads them, it only gets the local weather. The destination airport is almost always more than 200nm away (i.e. beyond local update surpression). My options in AS2004 are:Y Online updatesY Online VATSIMY Start paused (tried this set to N, no effect)N ProxyY Startup soundY Voice ATIS/Flightwatch (though don't use)N Disable text messages (on for debug of this prob)Y TAF processingN Use system time (I'm doing the RTW adventure so like weather to suit time of day of flying)Y Overcast enhancementY Fog layer generationY FSUIPC Wind smoothingY Extended dest wind forceY Add rain with TS reportsY Visibility smootingY Wake turbulence simulationN Increased wake effectsN Prevent all icingY Auto timezoneY Enforce viz limitsY Force destination Wx zoneY Automatic global write toggleN Auto plan convertY Use update suppression (set to 40000)Y Use local range suppression (100)N Limit cloud layersN Limit surface wind speedY Disable CAVOK cloud generationN Disable upper layer generationN Disable winds aloftY Disable ground updatesN Global area writesAny comments on if this isthe best set of options would be welcome, especially to get really smooth cloud transitions. Still quite a few sudden changes.
August 4, 200421 yr Hi Richard,Wow that was alot of typing! If you need to in the future, you can copy and paste your AS2004.ini file and it will save you all that time.I'll make my suggestions and you can try them as you wish:VATSIM NOTAF processing NOExtended dest wind force NOForce destination Wx zone NOUse update suppression (Lower this WAY down, try 4000)As far as cloud popups: are clouds appearing quickly in the distance or around your plane? What are the cloud draw distance and sight distance set to in FS?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 5, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi,You just need to process a route in As2004 (import or manually set dep/dest/altitude) and AS will then write the destination and enroute wx (before you depart) so that the information is available to 3rd-party apps such as FSHotSeat, RC3, etc...Hope that helps! August 5, 200421 yr Jim,Good tip re: cut and paste the .ini - should have thought of tat one... :(Tried those settings, and does not seem to help. Still get the departure & cruise Wx OK, but the enroute & destination as clear. I always load a flight plan into AS2004 - is this strictly necessary to get the Destination Wx?The cloud pops happen around the aircraft. Next time I get one, I'll save the Wx file, .ini and flightplan, and attach them. Will that help you to reproduce? I am flying in South America at the moment, last trip was SPZO to SPIM, using high level jetways and the standard FS9 flight planner, yesterday (4/8/04) at 07:00 local. I got a pop from no clouds to overcast just as I was approaching the coast. As I had update suppression on at 40000, as was flying at FL260, it should not have been caused by an update - in any case I had local suppression on at 100nm.Hope this helps - will build 125 add anything in this situation?
August 5, 200421 yr I try to follow the standard AS2004 process when starting up - but I don't always remember! However, on this occation, I have set up my flight in FS9, used the "Go Fly" button, then switched to AS2004, loaded the flight plan, including alternate and cruise speed, and used refresh, prior to switching back to FS9 and starting the FSHotSeat pre-flight sequence. FSHotSeat gets the local & cruise Wx OK, but not enroute or destination. Just for information, if I use FS9 weather (real or theme) the FSHotSeat briefing is fine. This is not a big deal really - its just for completeness of realism. It would be nice for my co-pilot to give me the correct Wx briefing. I get it aloft about halfway through the flight by requesting it, and again as part of the approach check-list, and both those work OK.
August 5, 200421 yr Hi,Files would be great! Screen shots also if you can get them. Something is not quite right on your system possibly.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 5, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Richard,Are you PROCESSing your route in AS2004 as well? When processing, your destination and enroute stations are populated with wx (can be verified via as2004.log), so the data should be available to FSHotSeat. Maybe you are not letting the initial wx write complete before FSHotSeat is activated?Other than that, I'm not sure about this one - you may want to contact FSHotSeat support as well.Hope this helps! August 5, 200421 yr Jim,When I get an example of cloud poping, I'll capture the files and create a new thread for that problem. In the mean time, on the topic of AS2004 and FSHotSeat, I have replied to Damian in the other branch on this thread with files and full logs (AS2004 & FSUIPC) so hopefully that will give some insight into what is going on.Appart from this minor issue, still loving AS2k4.
August 5, 200421 yr Damian,I've got a full set of zipped logs and files that might help in diagnosing this, including the Wx file, AS2004 & FSUIPC logs, and a complete record of my actions. However, some of the files are too big to attach (more than 125kb). Is there another way I can send them to you, e.g. an e-mail address? This isn't really detracting from my enjoyment, but is just a niggle - and I thought you might be interested. ;-)
August 6, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Richard,Sure, send to [email protected]. I'll take a look and see if I can find anything. Please do contact FSHotSeat support as well, and let me know what they come back with. It might be something on their end...Thanks!
