August 9, 200421 yr Hi Damian and Jim,first of all: thumbs up for your continuing support and improvement !A couple of question:how does AS2004 handle the RMK section of METARs ? More in depth: how handles remarks as "DSTN CB S-E MOV N" or similar ?Is AS2004 able to handle the "P" modifier ("heavy") used instead of "+" in many countries (Italy is one)? Thanks in advance.
August 9, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Enrico! Thanks!RMK section is not handled, there are too many differences in reporting standards here, and not much we can do with it anyhow. We may revisit this in the future...P instead of + is not currently supported (for precip or thunderstorm elements). Currently it will not recognize it and give default normal intensity. It is an easy addition, however. What is used instead of -? M? Is there a document you can point me to which explains these differences? Thank you Enrico!! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 9, 200421 yr Hi Damian,I thought that the RMK section was too "free text" (it seems that not only every country, but even every single person wrting down the METARs has his own set of "codes" !) to be efficiently handled. For what I know, many countries are using the "P" instead of "+" as "heavy" modifier for RA/SN/RASN/SNRA/TS/SH weather depiction, but to date I don't know if there is a document anywhere that details this practice. I never saw a "M" instead of "-", in Italy at least the "light" modifier is "-" as it should be.I also saw in some METAR the modifier VRB (that usually means variable) applied to BR and DU, and I don't know what is its meaning. As soon as I get one of these METARs, I'll send you one, OK ?Many thanks for your very prompt answer and many thanks for your continued excellent support !
