August 13, 200421 yr I am not sure if it is AS 2004 or FS itself, but I have followed my standard procedure to load the weather.(1) Load FS and Flight Situation(2) Load Flight Plan in FS(3) Set AI Traffic % to 0On Networked PC using WideFS...(4) Load WideFS(5) Load AS 2004 (Paused Mode)(6) Refresh AS 2004 Writes to FS 2004(7) New Route(8) Load FS Flightplan into AS 2004(9) It processes the route and updates via FSUIPC.At this point the Metar is reporting the Winds at 360 @ 8.I see the Flight Weather strip in FS 2004 with the correct weather.on FS 2004 Computer:(10) Turn on A/C instruments(11) Tune ATIS it report winds as 037 @ 8.Then at this point when the weather is loaded correctly, I usually set my AI % back to 90+.What the heck is going on here?? It worked PERFECTLY the last few weeks!!!!!BArry
August 13, 200421 yr Hi Barry,Looks like those ATC guys and gals are too slow in reporting the current weather. I'm not sure if there is anything we can do. I suggest you use our FlightWatch system.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 13, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Barry,Not sure I see a problem here. What specifically is wrong? Are you referring to the 37deg difference in the magnetic spoken value vs the true report? Sounds like you were flying up north with high magnetic variation.Remember, reports are always SPOKEN magnetic and READ true. Shift-Z is the exception, which always displays magnetic.Hope that helps! August 13, 200421 yr Damian,The Metar said 360@8. What has been happening historically is that the winds once I disable FS 2004 AI %, etc have been picked up exactly as they are in the Metar report which is what I expect to happen.I have never seen the issue with the Metar being off by magnetic vs trueWe'll see if it continues.Take care!Barry
August 14, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Barry,Still not sure I understand... What is off?Are you expecting FS atis to report winds 360/8? This is not possible unless you are in an area with zero magnetic variation. FS ATIS speaks magnetic, not true as per METAR report.Flightwatch also speaks magnetic (this changed from previous versions, where it would speak TRUE).What location are you trying this at? Thanks! August 14, 200421 yr Hi Damian,So it should be a little bit off, but not 37 degress different??I am just wondering how I verify the winds on all segments are loading correctly. Based on the Nav Log?How can I tell this? How do I compare with what the winds are reported on the shift Z status lines? Thanks!Barry
August 14, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Barry,You need to convert the magnetic variation to compare these. Or go to an area with zero magnetic variation such as KOLV.Here is an excerpt from our aviation weather guide (winds aloft chapter) included with AS2004:-------As mentioned, winds aloft direction is indicated in degrees TRUE. When you are comparing this to your magnetic heading and for flight planning, you will need to CONVERT this to degrees MAGNETIC. To do this you need to know what your MAGNETIC VARIATION is. Magnetic Variation is listed in airport and facility directories as well as on VFR charts by isogonic lines. This is a complex subject that pertains to flight planning, and we will not get into too much detail here. It is indicated in a certain degrees E or W. East variation is SUBTRACTED from TRUE (or ADDED to MAGNETIC) to convert. West variation is ADDED to TRUE (or SUBTRACTED from MAGNETIC). Why aren Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
