August 24, 200421 yr HiUsing the weather settings after loading a flightplan into Activesky, how do you tell whether you have a headwind or tailwind during flight? And how do you tell what speed that headwind or tailwind will be? Trying to create a flight from Malta to Manchester using a real route and PMDG aircraft and the fuel planner I am using requires the above info entered to calculate the fuel. Many Thanks
August 24, 200421 yr Hi Again,In your NavLog you have a column called WDIR for wind direction and next to that a column called WSPD for your wind speed. More on p. 17 of the manual if you wish to read more!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Personally, I use the average wind direction/speed at the bottom of the AS flight log. If it's mostly a tailwind based on general direction of flight (e.g., winds 270, and flying a north-easterly route is a tailwind) I don't even bother with the correction. For a headwind I use the average speed as the speed regardless of the actual headwind component, sort of the worst case scenario. At any rate, I find the PMDG fuel tables (which Ross's utility uses) tend to underestimate the actual fuel used, so I end up adding a few thousand lbs extra to what his fuel planner suggests anyway. It's always better to have more fuel than you need than not enough. :)Mark Kuebeler
