Day rollover/Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello,Thanks for a really excellent program. I have a few observations and some suggestions for consideration.Firstly I have noticed some seemingly inconsistent results with weather processing particularly around the time 2359/0000Z changeover. (The 'ActiveSky Time' I have referred to below is the reference time used by ActiveSky and I saw effectively the same results with both 'Use System Time(vs FS Time)' selected and deselected.) A couple of examples below: Weather ~ 20041124-00Z'ActiveSky Time' 2359 or before METAR report time 2359 or before:Everything seems ok. See below:Closest Station Report: LZTT/1nmLZTT 232330Z 26009MPS 6000 -SN FEW026 OVC046 M02/M05 Q1012LZTT 232200Z 240009 27007MPS 6000 -SN SCT016 BKN050 PROB30 TEMPO 0009 30010G18MPS 2000 SN BKN010 OVC030'ActiveSky Time' 0000 or after, METAR report time 2359 or before: - as soon as 'ActiveSky Time' reaches 0000 - the reduced visibility, snow and cloud all disappear suddenly. See below:Closest Station Report: LZTT/1nmLZTT 230012Z 26018KT M02/M05 Q1012 RMK DYNAMIC TAF ELEMENTLZTT 232200Z 240009 27007MPS 6000 -SN SCT016 BKN050 PROB30 TEMPO 0009 30010G18MPS 2000 SN BKN010 OVC030If the weather .dat file is manually changed so the METAR report time is 0000 or after, the reduced visibility, weather and cloud return.Another example:'ActiveSky Time' 2359 or before, METAR time 2359 or before:Everything seems ok. See below:Closest Station Report: YMML/1nmYMML 232359Z 19007KT 9999 SCT030 BKN250 15/08 Q1026 RMK NOSIGYMML 232233Z 240024 17012KT 9999 FEW030 FM10 VRB05KT CAVOK FM15 26005KT 9999 BKN005 FM22 18005KT CAVOK'ActiveSky Time' 0000 or after, METAR report time 2359 or before - CAVOK appears suddenly at time 0000, TAF does not forecast change to CAVOK for another 10 hours at time (24)1000. See below:YMML 230000Z 19007KT CAVOK 15/08 Q1026 RMK DYNAMIC TAF ELEMENTYMML 232233Z 240024 17012KT 9999 FEW030 FM10 VRB05KT CAVOK FM15 26005KT 9999 BKN005 FM22 18005KT CAVOKAgain if the weather data is manually edited so the METAR time is 0000 or after the processing seems to be correct. There seems to be a possible issue with METAR/TAF processing around the rollover beween time 2359/0000? Other Suggestions: 1. I think it would be very useful to have a display of 'ActiveSky Time' (the Time being used as a reference for weather processing) in the ActiveSky window. 2. ActiveSky currently has ability to select either 'System Time' or 'FS Time' as the time reference for processing. I think it would be useful to have a third option to manually select a time which need not be the same as either FS Time or the System time. For example, when flying in offline mode with an interesting weather scenario and you wish to fly in daylight - you could set the FS time as you wish and manually adjust the ActiveSky reference time to match the times of the weather capture. You can do that now, but it is inconvenient as you may have to change the System Time to achieve this.Best regards,Steven.

Jim, PMFJI, but what I see in Steven's METAR strings and if I understand him correctly, these strings are BEFORE he manually changes the METAR, is that the date is not changing along with Zulu TimeIn his first example, the same METAR seems to be used, but the METAR string lists 230012 as the time, instead of 240012. Which to me might imply that Active Sky is suddenly trying to generate weather that is almost 24 hours old.I may be incorrect, but that's how I am reading Steve's example METARS and thought I would point it out to you.Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg

Hi All,....which leads to even more confusion on my part. Now, I'll admit it: I have no idea what this whole thing is about!! Without editing any times, dates, or anything, is AS working correctly or not? Maybe someone else can help! I tried before I first posted and I re-tried just now, and my brain just won't let me see it through!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
