MIP-map conversion hanging / lasting days

Featured Replies

First of all, thanx for a great update. However, I have a question regarding the MIP-mapping. I have searched the forum here but not found any help on the matter so I have to write a post of my own. I understand You have had lots of MIP mapping questions so I hope You bear with me.I downloaded imagetool and installed as stated, and the mip mapping conversion starts fine (I'm trying to mip-map the 256-textures)However, it is said to take a few minutes, but i left the computer on overnight, happily mip-maping (I thought) but when the light of the first morning of the first day arose... (ahem...) the next morning it was still mip-mapping, with no apparent CPU cycles or HD activity.Something is not right. I have tried to reinstall all textures, and ASV but the problem remains.Do I need to download the 512 textures, to get mipmapping to work??? Would be nice to gain some fps:s...Any suggestions?

Just wanted to post a follow-up to this thread. Downloaded and installed 512 x 512 clouds last night. Went ahead and started mip conversion this morning. Halfway down the process I hear a click, as if the power in the computer went off, the hard drive goes on for a couple of seconds and everything freezes, such that a hard reset is required. I tried repeating the mip conversion several times and it happens almost exactly at the same moment. Reinstalling the 512 x 512 textures doesn't help. I had previously successfully mip-converted 64 x 64 and 256 x 256 textures.EDIT: Just a quick note. I just uninstalled 512 x 512 textures and ran the mip conversion again. It was flawless and didn't take more than 5 minutes. So, what are we looking at here ?

>Hi,>>Could be a corrupt install of the 512 clouds. Try to>re-download the three files, reinstall with anti-virus turned>off, and then try a conversion. Please let us know! Thanks Jim,I will do that tonight (EST) and report the results. I plan on doing the mip conversion with mip.bat (not within ASV). In the meantime, can you (or someone else) tell me what option to use in imagetool to see which file is being processed at a given moment. If the problem persists I will be able to identify which bitmap causes it. At this time, mip.bat uses "quiet" processing.

HI, When you enable mips, it take time near 20 min with a P4, 512Ram with the 512x512 installed because they are near 230MB.You can enable mips by cliking the mips.bat available atFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironmentThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

OK, a report as promised. I installed SU2 first. I downloaded the 3 zip files with 512 x 512 textures from avsim and installed the textures again. Then, out of curiosity, I ran the defragmentation analysis and saw this:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fragments File Size Most fragmented files57 58 MB Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsFlight SimulatorASV-FULLasv-ae512-a1setup.exe32 85 MB Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsFlight SimulatorASV-FULLasv-ae512-a2setup.exe26 94 MB Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsFlight SimulatorASV-FULLasv-ae512-a3setup.exe19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge05 Puffy C2cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge05 Puffy C1cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge15 Wispy Mixed B1cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge27 Moderate Puffy B3cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge27 Moderate Puffy B2cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge27 Moderate Puffy B1cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge20 Puffy Moderate3cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge20 Puffy Moderate1cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge15 Wispy Mixed B2cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge32 Wispy White B3cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge20 Puffy Moderate2cumulus01.bmp19 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge15 Wispy Mixed B3cumulus01.bmp18 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge10 Thin Fluffy B1cumulus01.bmp18 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge32 Wispy White B1cumulus01.bmp18 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge32 Wispy White B2cumulus01.bmp18 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge10 Thin Fluffy B2cumulus01.bmp17 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge05 Puffy C3cumulus01.bmp17 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge25 Puffy Broken1cumulus01.bmp17 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge25 Puffy Broken2cumulus01.bmp17 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge25 Puffy Broken3cumulus01.bmp16 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsSharp12 Wispy B01 Lowcumulus01.bmp16 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsSharp07 Thick C01 Lowcumulus01.bmp16 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsWispy35 Bumpy Puffy01 Wispycumulus01.bmp16 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge10 Thin Fluffy B3cumulus01.bmp16 1 MB Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture512x512 32 bitsDetailed Smooth Edge39 Moderate Puffy3cumulus01.bmpDefragmented the drive and ran mip.bat, without -nogui option, so I could detect what file was the culprit. Altogether, it took imagetool less than 10 minutes to cruise through the 256 x 256 textures, crawl through the 512 x 512 textures, and zoom through the 64 x 64 textures. And, of course, I wasn't able to reproduce the problem I had earlier today *:-* Thanks for this great product and a top notch support guys !
