Active Radar not showing Precipitation

Featured Replies

First off, thumbs up for a great product. ASV is really amazing.Having said that I seem to have a problem with the radar display of active radar. It doesn't show a thing. Now to make sure I had heavy rainfall I picked the hurricane theme from the preset weather menu, but even there, not a single speckle of indicated rainfall on my radar display.I tried all settings, checked if it was on properly, made sure I had a high update frequency (went to set it to 1 minute) but nothing.Tracking tells me I have heavy rain at the airport where I am located at, the radar however tells me there is none. What am I missing here?I verified with RealityXP's weather radar and that one clearly shows the rain. Could those two possibly conflict with one another or is something else possibly wrong? Please help me out.Marc

Hi Jim,Thanks for the fast reply.I did try to zoom out to the max, but with no result. I'm starting to think that it either is a setting somewhere or a conflict with another module. Also switching between both drawing types (B and C) don't give any result at all.Can you maybe explain to me how ActiveRadar gets it's data? Does it actually scan the FS environment for precipitation or does it display what ASV generates?e.g. The weather radar of RealityXP actively scans the FS environment. Is this the case also for ActiveRadar?I'm just asking to try to narrow down the search for the problem, since it seems to me that for some reason data is not being exchanged. Thanks in advance for the additional help.Marc

Hi,AR gets the data from a file in ASV called wx_export.met. See if that file is updated. It is re-generated each time ASV updates it weather. It's hard for me to tell because the tracking screen shows your position and shows precipipation. I will suggest that you try an Online test. Also it could be a video driver issue.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Ok, I think I've found the problem. I did a full system search for wx_export.met and I come up with no results. So for some reason, even though I do get the message that ActiveRadar data is being generated, the file is not created. Is there a setting to turn this on or off in any way?Where am I supposed to find this file (full directory path)? Can you give me any clues where to look for the reason why this file isn't being saved? At least I now know what's going wrong, now for solving it. :(Marc

Ok, had another look and found the file wx-export.met.Is this the way it is supposed to be named or should it be wx_export.met like you wrote it?Marc

Well I have the same problem.no wx-export.met was found.I am using ASV via WideFS. Everything is working fine. But not the active radar.By the way during the installation I have had to copy the .dll manually. When I am on the FS-PC and chose the activeradarconnector.exe on the WideFS-PC and looking for the asc.exe I recieve the msg. "You must select the ASV.exe file before continuing". I did but the installer don

Hi all,Wx-export.met is only used for FSFlightMax and will only be created if you have enabled such FSFlightMax export options within AR.For ActiveRadar, we use a file called "export_data.rad". This exists within the ASV folder and is re-created every time a wx update occurs. If you're not getting rain display, we must first make sure that ActiveRadar is indeed communicating with FS properly.. to check that, make sure your closest station is shown in Wx Tracking and proper distance from the station. AIf this is not working properly then there is a communications problem with FSUIPC. You should take a look in your FSUIPC.log file, there should be some clues there (feel free to post it here if you find such problems so we can help find a solution). If communications with FSUIPC are ok, then take a look at the reported conditions for the closest station in wx tracking.. they should generally match what ASV and the sim show. If not, then we have a network data file error (with the export_data.rad file). If on WideFS, make sure everything is installed properly. If not on WideFS, make sure ASV is installed properly into the FS9 folder, perhaps trying a re-install.Some important tips:Always use a flight plan with ASV and also import it into ActiveRadar when using AR precip display. This will ensure there are no "blind spots" in the display and everything is proper for accurate depiction. You can reduce the update interval within AR options, by default this is 5 minutes but can be changed to 1 minute to make updates (from the export_data.rad file) quicker.AR only shows precipitation, not clouds. Precip means rain or snow (as far as FS is concerned). If you have continued problems please write me back @ [email protected]. I may be delayed over the next couple days (having a baby!) but will get to you very soon. Thanks for your patience and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience AR or ASV has caused you.

Hi Damian,Thanks for the elaborate reply. Very helpful in trying to narrow down the cause of the problem.Seems to me that FSUIPC is communicating properly (no errors in hooking up with ASV or activeradar in the log), stations give good reports and are close enough whenever I try to use the radar, and I always make sure there's plenty of rain to see if it's working or not. It's late here in Europe now (1 am at the moment) so I'm going to leave it at that for the moment. Tomorrow I'll try a reinstall and see how that goes. If nothing else, I'll pop a quick email to you.And good luck with the upcoming baby! Hope all will go smooth for you guys.Marc

Well, I did reinstall everything of ASV and now the radar seems to be working just fine the way it's supposed to.Still makes me wonder how it got messed up at first. But I'm happy now. :-)Thanks for the help and the great product, I love that weather.Marc

Hello Marc,I'm having the same problem. Is all you did reinstall ASV or did you completely reinstall Fs9? (I hope not ;-) Perhaps is has something to do with my uninstall of AS2004.5 dat I did when upgrading to ASV.Regards,Huppeltje

Hi Huppeltje,No I just reinstalled ASV. So I took the service release out, the high res textures and ASV.After that I just reinstalled it all and now it's working fine.So hold off just now with reinstalling fs9 completely, this might fix it. :-)Good luck!Marc

Thanks!That did the trick! Regards,Huppeltje
