Lost ASV installation upon uninstalling 2004.5 -- Help!

Featured Replies

Purchased the upgrade today and installed it. All appeared smooth and I poked around with it. However I have owned every version since ActiveSky 1.something (Though wxRE, 2004.x etc.). After installing ASV I went to control panel and uninstalled all those previous versions (apparently every time I ungraded the old one stayed installed -- quite annoying, as along with 6-7 entries in the control panel add/remove software I have ActiveSky enties sprinkled all over my programs menus and couple of different directories of files). After uinstalling these old versions ASV vill not load and complains about a missing .dll. It won't reinstall however because it says 2004.5 is missing. What can I do? Very frustrated. Installations instructions gave me the impression the old versions were no longer needed when the ASV upgrade finsihed. I also find this failure to clean up and remove old versions bad practice.

The upgrade edition of ASV creates a full ASV installer version upon installation. This full package ends up in a folder called something like c:asv_install_files. You need to:1) re-install AS2004.5, so you can2) then run the ASV upgrade installer. It will ask you where to store the full installer, remember that location (and burn it to CD or whatever). After installation is complete, you have a working ASV and a full installer for future use.3) Now you can uninstall AS2004.5. NOTE! This will also remove some files needed for ASV to work.4) So now run the full installer located in c:asv_install_files (might be different in your case) and choose repair. At the end you have a working ASV. Remember, from now on use the full installer in case of problems or re-installing. Good luck!
