June 28, 200520 yr Hi there,I just come from the Flight1 forums where I was discussing some problems I was experiencing with my Cessna 172R.I'm a bit in a draw here since it seems that opinions are devided (as usual) about what is the cause of my problem. For starters the problem I'm having I have described as follows on the Flight1 support forums:/quoteHi all,First off, two thumbs up for a great plane! I really enjoy flying this one. However, I seem to have a problem flying it in autopilot mode.Whenever I choose to cruise with the autopilot active sooner or later my plane ends up in trouble stalling due to the autopilot not correcting the altitude correctly for some odd reason. For example, when there is downwind and the plane drops for a few hundred feet the autopilot tries to gain altitude by pulling up the nose of the plane a bit (it makes really small gentle corrections). However, the plane doesn't climb at all (VS stays at 0, no matter what the autopilot does). In response the autopilot pulls up more and more ending up pulling the plane in a stall. And this happens at least once every ten minutes of a flight.Needless to say, this makes the autopilot hazzardous to use in this plane. Because sooner or later this happens and the plane ends up crashing. I doubt whether it is supposed to work this way and was wondering if there is a fix for this. It would help a lot on those longer scenic flights where I like to turn on the autopilot and just pan around enjoying the scnery. Currently that is not possible with the autopilot. Also, how do I enable the VC when using snap views? I followed the suggested fix (renaming the panel.cfg and naming the old one into panel.cfg) mentioned in an earlier post, but for me that didn't change a thing. Is it possible to post the parameters that have to be changed so I can manually edit the panel.cfg so I do see my interior when using snap views in VC mode? Thanks in advance for any help.Marc/unquoteTo this someone replied having the same problem but having solved it by turning off the ASV vertical wind generation.I tried it and indeed it works. However, that leaves me to wonder whether ASV is responsible for the erratic bahaviour of the ap. In all honesty I don't really know since I don't know how the up and down draft are being simulated. Common sense would tell me that the auto pilot in the plane should be able to handle corrections in altitude without a problem. But.... at the same time, turning vertical winds off really fixed my problem. Can anyone please shed some light on this? I browsed the forums over here quite a bit, but couldn't find any related topics to this one. Is it possible that ASV is responsible for the erratic behaviour of the autopilot or is it normal that FS ap cannot handle sudden shifts in altitude very well? I doubt the latter since my other planes work just fine with ASV, but please convince me otherwise if you feel I'm wrong here.I could really use some advice, especially since at the other forum, people seem to be rather 'jumpy' so I don't expect much cooperation there. :(Thanks in advance for any comments.Marc
June 28, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi, Did you install the new update? The update fix the VAS.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 28, 200520 yr Wow, you are fast! :(Ehm, how new is the new update? I got ASV about a week ago, did we get a new update in the mean time? Forgive me, it's 2 am here and I'm a bit sleepy, so if I overlooked it.... you know why :PMarc
June 28, 200520 yr Commercial Member HI,The update is from Tue Jun-28-05 06:44 PM here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=19076&page=ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 28, 200520 yr Thanks a ton Chris,I'll install it in a sec and check it out tomorrow in the morning. And of course I'll make sure I will keep you guys posted. ;-)Either way I will let you know how things went. And good night to you guys.Cheers!Marc
June 29, 200520 yr I am having similar problems. I've applied SU2. Are there some tweaks that I could make to the aircraft.cfg file to modify the behavior of the A/P?Another problem, that may be related, is that once stabilized on an approach (A/P on), the A/C dives. I haven't noticed this at cruise altitude. When at 1000' AGL in an A320 it's kind of scary! Any ideas (short of disabling VAS) of how to fix this?My real-life flight instructor used to say: "Flying is hours and hours of sheer boredom interspersed with moments of sheer terror." Along with random failures, the above issues definitely relieve the boredom!Still, the best money I
June 29, 200520 yr Hi Ed,Could it be wake turbulence? Watch the ASV window for a message.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 29, 200520 yr Lately, I put the traffic slider at 20% so I don't have to keep going around - thanks FS9 ATC :-roll , so, in most cases, there's no visible traffic. The first time it happened though, I was behind a 757 on approach, so maybe that time. The other times there's been no traffic.
