June 25, 200520 yr Hi Guys,I have not seen this mentioned before, but when I import the FPL for ASV to process, it takes between 30 and 50 minutes to process. This was not the case with AS2004.5, it took 2 or 3 minutes tops. Now, like I say, with a FPL that has around 40 or 50 waypoints, it takes the better part of an hour.ASV is running on a P4-3GHz, with 2Gb RAM, and has a 512Kb DSL and connected to the FS PC via Gigabit LAN...Any thoughts guys??Appreciate it...CheersBryan
June 25, 200520 yr I have not done a flight plan with as many waypoints - my longest tend to be 25, but I have not noticed any significant diffrence with ASV compared to previous versions.Steve
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Steve,Thanks - Lee (from BAV too) also mentioned that his 27-odd waypoints took 3 or so minutes. That's what mine used to be, but I don't know if I have mucked something up making it go so slowly...CheersBryan
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Bryan,I just made a flightplan with 33 waypoints and ASV completed processing it in under a minute. Something is definitely wrong, though I'm not running on a network.Just a thought but do you have FS9 running while processing the flightplan? If so, perhaps minimizing FS9 will enable ASV to run at a more acceptable speed or better yet, allow ASV to complete the processing prior to starting FS9.
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Jim,It is not running on the FS PC. I have a dedicated PC (specs as per first post) that runs AS-V, WideFS, and the British Airways Virtual Logging software. At the time of flightplan processing, there are no other apps running - just ActiveSky 5....CheersBryan
June 25, 200520 yr BryanTry minimizing the MSFS window while ASV finds and processes all the waypoints. To see this work set MSFS in maximum window and have the ASV plan window open and on top. By clicking the min for MSFS you can see an increase in the rate of processing the waypoints. Having the task manager active and min you can see the cpu usage next to the clock in the lower right corner. On my system when MSFS is not minimized the cpu is at 100% all the time. With MSFS minimized it drops down to near zero. Your system is very different but it may be worth a try.Hope this helps.
June 25, 200520 yr >Try minimizing the MSFS window while ASV finds and processes>all the waypoints.Hi Glen,Thanks for the suggestion, but as I said earlier, AS-V is not on the FS machine... It runs on a dedicated machine (specs in 1st post)...I have never run any version of Active Sky on the same machine as FS, and I have never had this before...CheersBryan
June 25, 200520 yr Bryan,I know your setup is very different but it is not much of a problem to test this. When you have MSFS running and in an open window; what does the task manager cpu usage say?I ran a test.Cessna 172Flight plan, KLAX to KJFK, low altitude airways, 77 waypoints. With the MSFS window minimized it took 2 minutes 40 seconds to complete processing. With the MSFS window maximized (not full screen) it took 7 minutes to compete processing. It doesn
June 25, 200520 yr Glen - Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 is not running on this machine at all. The application process is not running. Active Sky has its own PC.And it makes no difference if I do have Flight Simulator (which is on a another PC connected via WideFS) running (which would be full-screen).Bryan
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Bryan,No, not normal.Have you tried a reinstall?Any anti-virus running on this machine?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Jim,Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query. And your suggestion # 3 is what's buggering me around. I can't believe I didn't think of that one. I have Norton Antivirus, and with Autoprotect disabled, it zooms through the 40-odd waypoints in under a minute. With it enabled, back to around 45 minutes.Even if I configure NAV to allow ASV full internet access, and disable worm-protection, it still takes forever...Any ideas on what settings to use with NAV 2005 so I can keep it running??ThanksBryan
June 25, 200520 yr Bryan,I know you have a setup very different, I think I said that twice. If you don
June 25, 200520 yr Hi,OK we have made progress! We know the problem now. In many cases NAV and flight simming in general do not get along and here is another case. During flight planning usually no download in necessary, so it would be OK just to disable NAV for that minute or two. I would never use NAV so I don't know much about the settings.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 25, 200520 yr Hi Jim,Yes, if I disable the autoprotect, then it solves the problem. If I keep it on, then will the same issue crop up with the online updates? I trust that NAV isn't your favourite? What do you recommend?@ Glen, on the other PC AMD Athlon FX-55, CPU load is 98% full-screen (38% minimised) with LDS767 using Heathrow Pro V2 and 100% AI traffic.ThanksBryan
June 25, 200520 yr Bryan,Thanks. I was beginning to think my machine was the only one running at or near 100% cpu with MSFS in any window not minimized.I do know with a single machine downloading the weather file 370+K is very slow with a window open and very very fast when the MSFS window is minimized. You can see the difference when starting a download with a window and then minimize the MSFS window.BTY I disabled Norton Auto-Protect and it made only a slight difference.
