Previous user of ActiveSky. But since installing ASV I have not been able to complete a flight when clouds are displayed. Usually when switching to outside view, FS freezes and sometimes sound goes into a loop or makes a horrible sound. I then need to reboot the computer wherein it tells me I have recovered from a serious error. This only occurs when using ASV, otherwise the computer and FS runs fine. I have tried various video drivers, bios and sound drivers are the latest. My system is:Dell Dimension 8300 3.2 ghzWin XP SP21024 mb RAMGeForce 6800 ultraNvidia 71.89 driversSoundblaster Live 5.1480w psuI mipped 256 clouds and tried 64 also. Don't know how to resolve this and need help.Michael

HI JimI ask Michael some question via mail if you can find something here. I noticed he should have render to texture to the opposite like you have said to avoid the flickering panel and mouse etc.-Run fs2004 in windowed mode and test. Can't run in windowed mode as I get flashing panels and mouse cursor.-Can you told me how many software you are running in backgound of your windows?I use FSAutostart and shut down all nonessentials.-You Disk drive is close to full or half empty?I've got 68 percent of a 80 gb free.-You defrag regulary you hardisk or not often?Defrag once a week.-Before you change your video cards, did you uninstall the previous one and clean the old one?Used a driver cleaner program and deep cleaned registry at each driver change.-Did you use the latest directx ?Yes.Improving Overall Performance1) I recommend to set the clouds draw distant to the lowest and sight distant at the lowest, after testing, increase them little bit and test again the result in Fs2004.2)When there is many layers at the same time, the clouds density slider can help for I'd like to know how the settings for FS, ASV & FSUICP interact. Does setting visibility in ASV override the FSUIPC and FS settings?I have FSUIPC set at 30, 10 5 and 1/2 as default, FS wether clear and visibility in ASV at 30. I cant seem to come up with settings that eliminate the clouds drawing in the distance while flying. performance.Video Cards SettingDepend on many system and configuration, you can start with the basic Setting and increase them after slowly and see your performance.-AA and AF at 2..................................AA 8X, AF 8-Image setting to performance..............................SET-Turn off Vsync .......................................OFFIn Fs2004 Display Setting-Antialasing set to disabled .................................Disabled-Lock your Target Frame Rate Slider at 25 or higher........................25-Set Mips slider default (4) ....................................................................4-FS display filtering, test with Bilinear or Trilinear............................Tried bothThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hi All,Those do eliminate a bunch of stuff. Things I still would like to know:1. In Full Screen Mode does Render to Texture make a difference?2. Without ASV running can you get a crash?3. One more thing that is showing up more and more Chris, is the whole Fast Writes setting in BIOS. Many FS04 users are discovering that having Fast Writes enabled really taxes the video system causing CTDs. Once they disable this, the crashes stop. When we run out of ideas we need to keep this in mind.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
