August 29, 200520 yr Can someone suggest visibility limits for the FSUIPC option for clear weather, cloudy, etc?Or are the default numbers fine? And what other options should I check, enforce vis limits?Just trying to make my game as realistic as possible. Thanks for an amazing weather program in ASV!
August 29, 200520 yr Hi Al,Best to start with default and weather settings Off.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 29, 200520 yr I have been using that, but I have found that visibility is a little too far on clear and cloudy days. I don't want to change the vis limits in ASV because that will make it the same vis for both cloudy and clear. Any suggestions?
August 29, 200520 yr Hi,Have tou tried a v. max of 50? Just wondering!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 30, 200520 yr Yes but is that realistic? Some clear days you can see farther than 50 miles. I would rather limit it depending on weather displayed, not locking it at 50 no matter what the day.
August 30, 200520 yr >Yes but is that realistic? Some clear days you can see>farther than 50 miles. I would say it is realistic, much more realistic than having 100 miles visibility in FS9. The problem with FS9 is that it doesn't simulate atmosphere 'thickness' so if you set visibility to unlimited - this is what you are going to get. In real life even with reported extraordinary visibility it is very hard to make out objects/terrain at those distances due to natural haze and the bluish tint. So in my opinion 50 miles visibility cap in FS9 is much more realistic than 100 or 200.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
September 5, 200520 yr Thanks Jim and Michael for the help. One question about this vis limiting, it seems as if behind the vis layer, there is nothing. So when flying at night, the vis layer basically removes the land textures and the stars twinkle behind it. Is there any way to not have the land removed but just create a layer of haze?
September 5, 200520 yr Hi Al,Pretty sure it does use haze. Set your max to some low value like 10. Do you get thick haze at 10?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
September 11, 200520 yr I put my vis limit at 60 I think... and then in FS I set the max visibility limit (the scenery draw distance) to a high number like 100+ miles. What happens is then on some days (it depends on the ICS texture selection) there will be haze and you won't be able to see past 60 miles. But then on other days when the weather is good you'll be able to see the full 100+ miles, although only large mountains, etc. And they will be very hazy and blue, much liek in the real world. The trick is that the sky textures determines the color of the haze... and if the color of the haze is different than the color of the sky at the horizon, you will be able to "see" further than the FSUIPC limit since FS is still drawing the terrain, and since it's hazed out at a different color than the sky it still shows up. Then, some other ASV textures have haze which is the same as the sky at the horizon, and in that case distant mountains blend into the sky so you can't see them. I am not sure if it was intentional to do this or not, but I have found it to be quite pleasing!Ruahrc
