ASV won't load

Featured Replies

After months of use with no problems suddenly yesterday I am unable to load ASV on my widefs laptop. As the blue bar progresses it stops at "reading ICAO station files" and I get an error message that says Initialization error reading files....Please verify your files or reinstall. I tried to reinstall/repair twice, no luck, I did full uninstall/reinstall and it worked until I rebooted my laptop now the same thing again!! No other recent changes to my IBM Thinkpad laptop. I am pulling my hair out as to what is happening. How do I "verify files" if that is all it would take? Everything else on laptop working fine. I have the original ASV and SU1. Thank you so much! Robert

I just started having the same error yesterday as well. I reinstalled ASV on my WideFS machine, it started working again, and I thought all was well. Today, after my WideFS machine being off overnight, I just restarted ASV and I'm getting the same error again.I installed the latest version of WideFS yesterday (6.50), so I'm suspicious that this may be the culprit (although I'm not sure why)...Are you running Sygate Personal Firewall on your WideFS machine by any chance? I just disabled mine and now it seems to be working fine (although ASV has worked fine with it many times in the past). I had set my Sygate PF to allow WideFS traffic; in fact other WideFS programs (like RanaInside's FSM MovingMap) are working just fine over the new WideFS 6.50 + same old Sygate firewall connection.Well, for now I will just leave the firewall enabled only on my host machine as this stands between the internet and my WideFS machine anyway. Under this configuration it appears to be working.I would also appreciate any help with this issue! Thanks!N12345

I just use windows firewall but can't see how this would affect anything as I have ASV set to startup paused and I can't even get it to start. When you say you reinstalled did you do a full uninstall reinstall or what, I would love to know. I can't even get to the paused program. Thanks.

Hi Doc,I uninstalled ASV, and also deleted my leftover AS2004.5 folder (had a couple files in it since it was uninstalled for ASV a while back). BTW I also have the SU1 installed. So, I uninstalled ASV SU1, then uninstalled ASV, then deleted my leftover AS2004.5 folder from before, rebooted, ran "CCleaner" (www.ccleaner.com), rebooted, installed ASV, installed ASV SU1, launched WideClient 6.50, and finally launched ASV and it worked fine again. Now, this morning when it wasn't working, I disabled & uninstalled the Sygate firewall on my WideFS PC and without any further install/reinstall of ASV or anything it's now working fine again. I'm typing this on my WideFS PC and flying on my main PC right at this moment.Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.N12345

Well, I just had the same problem again. Exited ASV, went and did something else, came back, restarted ASV, and got the same error message. This time I disabled the Sygate Personal Firewall on my main FS PC, and ASV immediately worked the next time I started it. It definitely has something to do with local network connectivity, and possibly the new version of WideFS. N12345

What puzzles me is that the initial load should have nothing to do with widefs or connectivity to networks as it simply loads the main ASV interface page in paused condition. You should be able to load it totally independent of network availability I believe....Maybe that is my problem. Is it supposed to be loaded with FS2004 running on the main PC and widefs running?? I simply installed it at work and went home and used it and worked well for months. Why the sudden problem....Makes me nuts!! Thanks.
