November 15, 200520 yr Hi,I'm currently setting a flight from Paris to Pointe a Pitre and got disapointed when I computed my flightplan into ASV and read the Nav Log:during the first stage of the flight the wind aloft predicted in ASV Nav Log are just the opposite as today's weather:I expected cool tailwinds northwest off Spain which would push me forwards to the Antilles like sailormen used to do...Today's (15nov) 00z analysis:http://mottoth.free.fr/images/euro5.00hr.pngTonight's (16nov) 00z forecast, the northeasterly jetstream is shifting south but is still there:http://mottoth.free.fr/images/PGIE07_00_CL_new.gifBut this is what ASV gives with today's data (20051115_10Z_archive.dat). The following waypoints are located off France and Spain along what I expected to be a northeasterly jetstream:ID FL060 FL090 FL120 FL180 FL240 FL280 FL340 FL390TERPO 210/037 211/038 211/047 209/048 219/053 218/070 224/080 216/075KOLEK 210/047 218/042 214/037 207/044 201/051 204/068 218/085 215/071RIVAK 270/033 265/032 238/050 207/079 212/085 223/095 228/098 234/0743920N 329/027 325/029 326/062 316/065 302/068 305/066 296/060 288/074This is just the opposite as the real thing... a 90-knot headwind at RIVAK where I expected a 50-knot tailwind ! My Aloft predictability setting is 88% which should be quite accurate. I tried to compute the flightplan with 20051115_14Z_archive.dat too, with the same result.I compared today's 12z upper air soundings with ASV data and I can confirm that, at least for western France, the wind aloft data in ASV is a joke... So far ASV has always been very accurate regarding wind alofts, even crossing the pond, so I'm very surprised it has all wrong today, sounds like a update issue on your database... Would you investigate on this ???Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work :)Yohann.
November 16, 200520 yr Hi,I am no expert in winds maps so I have pointed Damian to this thread. Please wait for him to come along!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
November 16, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,There indeed was an issue that cropped up late the 13th into today which caused winds aloft data to synchronize to stations incorrectly. We've been working on it since yesterday. This has been corrected as of about 23:00Z 11/15/05 and we anticipate no further problems on this front. Please advise if you notice any problems.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
November 16, 200520 yr Thanks, it seems you fixed it: I just tried with the current data (16th, 09z) and the ASV NavLog matches today's wx maps.Regards,Yohann.
