Evening all. Hi Jim!Just had high-speed Internet installed, and looking to play!Rumour is it's Christmas soon, so Timmy needs a present. On one hand - AS upgrade. On the other - Radar Contact.Hmmm....Looking at the AS website, I see:"If you'd rather specify your own conditions (or modify the existing ones), the Wx Configurator interface makes setting global, local, or regional weather a snap!"Now, about 1973 I asked some questions on this forum about not being able to select weather themes, and suggested this would be a great idea.Does the above mean I can now pre-select weather themes al-la FS9 if I upgrade to ASV?One of my personal gripes with the weather in FS9, including AS, is the lack of REALLY good turbulence. Though I did note a thread here a couple of weeks ago and Jim said this was being worked on.When that is done, would it be included in the weather themes as well?I like AS. Sometimes, not all the time, the weather effects are superb.Do I love it, and couldn't imagine simming without it? Not really. But.It's never let me down, the support is sensational here in these forums, and I am a big believer in supporting companies that support their customers.So. Jim? If you can (please) give me a confirmation that the weather themes are as I expect/assume, then I'm off with the credit card to upgrade.Oops - am I upgrading to ASV or ASVE?CheersTimNZWN

Thanks Jim.I'll go get it this weekend.CheersTim

I fly both large and small aircraft with ASVe and RC4 (you need a double Christmas present :) ).The upgrade to ASVe made me a happy camper in experiencing vertical drafts especially flying over hilly and mountainous terrain that I have experienced in real world GA flying. These in the sim are present even at high alttitude (but reduced in internsity if AGL is high as expected). As an example taking off and departing from Zurich over mountainous terrain it was immersive to see the outside view bob up and down with respect to terrain induced vertical drafts even in the PMDG 737-800 heavy. Heading to Nice, France, the action reduced with altitude and was flat over water. On entering approach over hilly terrain the bobbing action on the glideslope started up. It was a great experience - and great for sharpening your hand-flying skills. I experienced it also with GA finals with moderate wind conditions as I did in real-life in the US.Now regarding the introduction of CAT (clear air turbulence) let me suggest to those concerned that if at a jet-stream altitude and suddenly you encounter a significant crosswind component change that can be a signal that you have crossed at a significant right angle to the jet stream current. According to a couple of articles I just read regarding CAT that airline dispatchers issue a caution to pilots encountering this entry angle to expect CAT. In programming terminology, perhaps using an altitude window with a crosswind trend might signal a good chance to introduce some coffee spilling CAT randomly and in varying magnitude of course. As far as generating weather themes I prefer just to download and save weather under folder names describing the season, location, environment. When I want specific weather I just load these. Into these folders I save US situation maps with radar from weather.com. I use wunderground.com putting in the ICAO airport ident to get existing weather at US and international locations to see if any area I'm interested in is worth saving. In otherwords I have snapshots of real world weather.
