CTD

Featured Replies

Hi Chris,Sorry you are having trouble. There was one other user that had this same problem, and for the life of me I cannot remember what the solution was. I will point Damian to this thread for you.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Thanks for you attention Jim. Glad to know that I am not the only one who encountered this error. I have read in other discussion forums that others who have experienced FE.DLL errors believe that it has something to do with FS9 painting/refreshing textures.

Hi,We have had quite a few CTD reports actually, all of them solved and confirmed not related to AS in any way. AS can't cause an FS CTD as it is not directly linked with FS in any way. It uses a completely external interface via FSUIPC. Please check the forum for existing topics on this.As for the message in the log about index service, this is normal and not related to this problem. As for not getting CTD without AS loaded, I have to ask, do you mean instead, not getting CTD without advanced real weather loaded? The problem for most is only seen when the system is loaded down... station-based real weather (via the FS9 real weather option) or as provided by any weather add-on does require a bit of system resources. It is quite common that the CTD only appear in less-than-clear weather conditions. Please re-try your test scenario but this time make sure you are using the FS real-weather feature and have roughly the same weather conditions as experienced with AS. If the CTD does occur, it completely isolates AS from the mix and at this point our only suggestions would be to check the many dozens of topics in this and other forums about the dreaded, very common FS9 CTD issue. If CTD does not occur (it would be a first), please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will attempt to directly resolve this with you.I know how frustrating CTDs can be... hopefully one way or another we can get this fixed for you very soon. Thanks for your help and patience.Best,

Hi,One more note... I might have been a little misleading about AS being completely external. The ActiveRadar component IS internal via FS9 module .dll interface, and if it is setup improperly for your setup (mainly, some detail options are incompatible with certain video cards) it can cause problems, potentially creating or helping to create a CTD condition. To isolate, I would remove the AR component by renaming the .dll file (ActiveRadar.DLL in FS9Modules) to ActiveRadar.disabled.Best,

Well... I might be adding to the "not AS6's fault" list if my hunch is right. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of FS2004 including the addons listed above. I even went as far as to delete all residual files by hand before reinstalling. I ended up right where I started with the same strange CTD problem. On the latest CTD I decided to wade through the entire binary memory dump and noticed something out of place. Typically the report will list all the DLL's and threads running at the time of the error. However, jammed in the middle of the memory-dump was a reference to a texture file for an AA MD-80 used by Flight1's Ultimate Traffic. I checked the texture and noticed that it had odd dimensions... something like 524x215. If I remember correctly, texture-file dimensions have to be a multiple of 128.As a result, I replaced the texture file. I have not been able to test FS yet due to my work schedule. I hope to go on a run Friday night or Saturday morning. I will let you know if that solved the problem. ;-)

Just a quick follow up to the CTD problem that I reported last week...Looks like my suspicion was correct. Correcting that odd-ball texture from F1's UT corrected the source of the FE.DLL error.Again, thanks for the supoport and suggestions. ;-)

Dear ActiveSky:My FS2004 software has been experiencing CTD errors since I installed AS6. I spent the past couple of days playing with this problem by removing addon programs one at a time and observed that when AS6 was not running and when it was uninstalled FS2004 would not CTD. I installed the service update which did not rectify the error.FS2004 Configuration Details:[ul][li]FS9 Update Installed[/li][li]FSUIPC 3.53 (Registered)[/li][li]TrackIR4[/li][li]Scenery, Aircraft, and Weather display-settings: maximum[/li][li]FS's Display Settings, Hardware:[/li][ul][li]Target Framerate: 30[/li][li]Render to Texture: on[/li][li]Transform and Lighting: on[/li][li]Anti-aliasing: off[/li][li]Filtering: Bilinear[/li][li]MIP Mapping Quality: 4[/li][li]Hardware-Rendering Lights: 8[/li][li]Global Max Texture Size: Massive[/li][/ul][li]Installed Addons:[/li][ul][li]Ultimate Traffic[/li][li]DF 727 v2[/li][li]LVLD 767[/li][li]CoolSky MD80[/li][li]FlyTampa KMDW[/li][li]FlyTampa KSFO[/li][li]AS6[/li][/ul][/ul]PC Configuration:[ul][li]Asus A8N-SLI Premium[/li][li]AMD FX-57[/li][li]2GB Corsair XTWIN Pro[/li][li]Dual GeForce 7800GT running in SLI-mode[/li][li]Creative Audigy2sz[/li][/ul]PC is not overclockedError Details:FS2004 will run for 2 minutes all the way up to several hours before crashing. When the error occurrs, the screen goes black for a second and then returns. Upon returning FS's graphics-engine continues to run, but there is no sound and it does not respond to joystick inputs. Within a couple of minutes FS crashes with the typical Microsoft autogenerated error dialog. The error details indicate that "FE.DLL" was the root file causing the crash. I dug a little deeper and pulled up WinXP's Event Viewer. I noticed that leading up to the FS9 application error there were several warnings relating to ASV6 and all indicated the following:[ul][li]The content index filter for file "c:fs9modulesasv6current_wx_snapshot.txt" generated content data more than 8 times the file's size.[/li][/ul]It seems to only trigger either when I am on the moving on the ground, or while I am on an approach within 5nm of an airport. Could it have something to do with the weather updating while I am at or close to an airport?Any suggestions?
