Newbie needs some help

Hiya,Im new to using Activesky and from what I have seen so far it looks fantastic. But I have a few questions as its quite a complex program and it will help me to understand it better.1. I understand AS6 covers real-time weather but Ive been trying to use the Custom Wx templates for extreme weather such as thunderstorms. I tried a thunderstorm at Stansted EGSS and at first I had clear skies, then after about a minute the clouds appeared? Is this right?2. Following on from point 1, in AS6 the weather template said rain etc.. but when it loaded the real weather for a thunderstorm it said no rain. When I got to Stansted I got heavy cloud but no rain, lightning or thunder?3. Is there a way to add more weather templates to AS6 for different weather as I like the extreme stuff sometimes? It says theres a way to create custom weather but all I can seem to find is the 5 or 6 templates?4. Before I got AS6 I downloaded lots of weather scapes from Weather maker into FS9. Is it still possible to use these along with AS6 to create these proper offline weather systems with all the extra that AS6 builds into the sim? Thanks

Hello and Welcome,1. Yes, this is normal. Depending on your system and the data it can take a bit of time. For some it may take up to 5 minutes for the weather to be fully shown.2. Did you use the Apply Now button and the Update and Save button?3. You can save as many Themes as you wish. In the middle of the Wx Configurator screen there is a window for the name and description and then you click on the Save button. Then you new theme should show up on the list.4. No, I don't believe so.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

hello again, thanks for your help and quick response.2. Yes, i did press both buttons. The thunderstorm template said rain but when you press the Apply button AS6 goes off and loads something (thunderstorm weather?!) but once it had done that, the next box in AS6 said no rain and the settings were all different compared to the template. Then I did the Update and Save button.3. Can you download different themes or do you just build them based on old weather archives you save?thanks again, this brings so much more to the sim.

Hi,I tried getting a thunderstorm at Stansted again tonight but with no luck. I chose the Thunderstorm template, put in EGSS for the location and also ticked the box for all locations to get the same weather in AV6. Then I did save and update and it said it was loading the weather and transfering it and also turning off the online element to keep my offline settings.I then loaded FS9, set the day to today, set the airport to EGSS with User defined weather and started the game. When it loaded into Stansted the AV6 bar first said getting weather from the defaut METAR but I did not have any clouds. Then a few minutes later it brought up the bar again with EGSS as the location but I still did not see one cloud. I left the sim for ten minutes but still not one cloud was in the sky.I am not saying there is a fault because its most likely me at fault but does anyone have any idea what I may be doing wrong?thanks

Hi,OK I am back after doing stuff and testing things out. My findings are that the Heavy Thunderstorm Theme does work properly. I set all weather stations and my default airport got rain and so did EGSS. So now we need to figure out why things are not working for you.First let's go through the steps:1. Start ASv6.2. Open the Wx Configurator and click on the Heavy Thunderstorm Template.3. Check the Apply to all Box.4. Click on the Apply Now button and wait for this to finish.5. Click on the Update and Close button. This closes the wx Configurator screen and causes ASv6 to process the weather and switch to Offline Mode.6. Start FS04. At any airport you should get rain, heavy clouds, thunder and wind gusts. There is no need to go to any weather screen in FS04.Do you have ASv6 set to start paused? Please let me know if this works for you.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

Hi,Thanks again for taking the time to assist.Im not sure what was going on last night as no clouds were loading apart from KSEA but I tried it again tonight and it worked. The first few times I got a cloud formation but no rain or thunder. But on the fourth attempt I got rain and lightning :) Is it a randon thing that you do not always get rain or should I be getting rain every time? Also, are there any sites to download more templates. I dont think Im ready to start creating my own but it would be useful to try out some others?Anyway, thanks a lot for your assistance, much appreciated.

Hi,Some notes:To apply a weather template and have it immediately depicted, you must:1) Be at the appropriate location within FS (so the engine knows where to write to)2) Be on the ground (otherwise local suppression will cancel local updates)3) Apply the weather template to the desired area, either by station ID and associated range, or via "Apply to all stations" checkbox4) Update the weather after applying, i.e. via the "Update and Close" button in the wx configurator screen5) Wait for the update and weather write process to completeHope that helps..Best,

Hi,It should be the same weather each time. You may be rushing things a bit. Depending on your computer it may take up to 5 minutes for things to totally load and be shown. No Templates out there that I know of. You can create them from current weather or from archived weather.Just wondering: Do you enjoy creating your own weather moreso than using current weather? I know users like the wxConfigurator feature, but I have not seen someone who likes this as much as you seem to like it! Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

I think because I am new to AS6 and the weather here is pretty average and still at the moment, Im just enjoying trying out some extreme weather at the moment to see how both AS6 and FS9 handles it. Because I dont know a great deal about weather its good to try and use other peoples templates who understand all the different conditions and varities of weather.
