METAR HELP newbie and questions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I need help with AS6. What exactly is a metar code. Could someone please give me a metar code so that it is foggy and rainy at KSAN with no wind. Also,Is there any way to make a saved startup file in FS with the AS6 weather already loaded. For example, load up FS go to the airport, park at a gate. Then, activate the AS weather Via the WX configuator. Then go back to FS and once the weather is there save the as a flight. If I did this, every time I load the flight (saved startup file), would the AS weather be loaded in that flight? Or would it be deault weather?Sorry but I am new to all this weather stuff. Many ThanksAlexwww.fs2crew.comhttp://www.fs2crew.com/betateam.jpg

Hi Alex,Welcome to ActiveSky!METAR means Meteorological Aerodrome Report and is essentially the weather reported by the station at the time of the observation and is what AS uses to decode and depict weather. For some good information on METAR reports and a decoder please see the Guide to Aviation Weather included with ActiveSky (Start, Programs, ActiveSky 6).Here's the METAR you requested:KSAN 000000Z 00000KT 1SM OVC010 +RA A2992KSAN is the station ID.000000Z is the report time (in this case NIL) - first 2 digits are the day of the month, last 4 are the hours/minutes GMT/Zulu time.00000KT is the wind.. first 3 digits are the TRUE direction and next 2 digits is the speed in kts. No wind in this case or "calm", variable direction 3 kts or less (as will be depicted in the sim).1SM indicates 1 statute mile of visibility.OVC010 indicates an OVERCAST (8/8 coverage) cloud layer at 1000ft (the 3 digit altitude indicate gives AGL height of cloud base / 100).+RA indicates Heavy rain (- would be light rain, no prefix +/- is moderate rain).A2992 indicates the altimeter setting/pressure in inches, 29.92 or ISA in this case.If you save a flight, the current weather (as set by AS or any other means) will be saved and reloaded when you load the flight. But the recommended way to save your weather is to use the "Save Wx" button then you can "Load Wx" to call it up again. But if you are in offline mode you won't need to reload anything as the last weather loaded will be retained until something new is loaded/downloaded/configured. Using FS's load a flight without AS running will result in proper conditions at the departure but will not properly update and provide effects throughout the flight.Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.. Best,

Thanks for the response!Would this work.1)Open up AS.2)Open up WX congiguator3) Choose a template with the metar you gave me and choose to apply to all loacations4) Apply it and and click update and close5) Start FS and run my saved startup file. Will i get rain and snow in KSAN and while decending to KSFO?OR would this be better.1) I save the weather from the WX configuaor and then load it from the main AS screen. Do I have to load it when FS is running, when I am in my flight, or before I start FS. Once it has loaded can I close AS.ThanksAlexwww.fs2crew.comhttp://www.fs2crew.com/betateam.jpg

Hi Alex,We appreciate the new thread. It sure makes things easier to follow! The first set of steps is better. You will not get any snow because that is a different code. You would get the rain and the low visibility. If you know you are going to use these same conditions in the future, then save as a new theme by entering a name and save it. Then you can follow #1-5 with your theme, anywhere in the world.I'll be around all weekend off and on to check to see how you are doing.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Thanks Jim!One question. When do I do the first steps (choose a theme apply it and activate it)Before I start FS, while FS is running (main screen) or while in my flight?ThanksAlexwww.fs2crew.comhttp://www.fs2crew.com/betateam.jpg
