May 14, 200620 yr This little issue has been bugging me for a long time, and i can't seem to fix it. I am using AS6 on a second computer with Widefs. The second computer is networked with Belkin router. Both can see each other and write to each other. I had no problems with ASV but when i upgraded to AS6 I began having a problem when starting AS. As the probgram loads, the program tells me that it can't find the FS directory in this computer and asks me to browse to it. I do, and accepts it and tells me to save options. Then it tells me that it can't find the FS personal files, and asks me to browse to that one as well. I do again, and again am reminded to save my options. But on the next screen the program says it can't update weather because it can't find the files. After an OK, another dialogue pops up and say the FS Path is empty. After an OK, the program loads normally and functions normally however, despite telling me it won't No amount of saving the options will help--it never recalls the paths I've browsed to. I've edited the paths in the .ini but still no luck. I've tried defining the paths as shared resources (network places) and as mapped drives. no difference. It never recalls or reconects to the remote directories. Win XP Pro on the main machine and Win XP Tablet on the tablet PC (remote). Was working before i upgraded to version 6. It sounds like a little thing but it is really annoying and because drilling down through the network dialogue is tendius and slow, it adds 5 mins or so to starting the program.
May 15, 200620 yr Hi,Have you done both?1)Make sure that sharing is enabled and that you have proper read/write permissions for both the WideFS computer (ASV6 path) and FS Computer (FS9 path and Documents and SettingsUserApplication Data path). The Application Data path is new in ASv6.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
May 15, 200620 yr Thanks Jim. I have checked permissions from the WideFS machine to the fs main by confirming that I can browse to the folders on the FS machine from the My Network Places on the WideFS machine and create and delete files. I have write access to BaseFolder on the WideFS machine of course (since it is the same machine) but I haven't shared that folder on the network. Not sure why the FS machine would be writing there.
May 15, 200620 yr Hi,We need access to the FS9.cfg file I believe and that is in the Application Data folder. So are things working now?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
May 15, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi,Actually both FS9.cfg and wxstationlist.bin (the .bin needing write access so we can add your new pseudo stations).Sounds like lack of write access to me?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
May 15, 200620 yr Commercial Member Also,Instead of using base folder mappings on the FS9 machine, I highly recommend basic UNC shared folders...i.e."Share" C:Documents and SettingsmynameApplication Data with read/write access as default sharename Application Data"Share" C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9 with read/write access as default sharename Flight Simulator 9Because shares can indeed get messed up, I would recommend resetting them (unsharing/resharing) if you already have it setup this way.For the WideFS PC shares, you can use UNC or map root drive as specified. Both are confirmed to work with the latest builds.Let me know if you have any further problems? Would be glad to help.. feel free to e-mail me @ [email protected], Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
May 16, 200620 yr Thanks guys. Your suggestions have helped. I think the problem was that I had defined shares to the Flight Simulator folder on the FS machine and the directory of flight plans in the personal Documents folder on the FS machine. I had not shared the directory containing FS9.cfg. (i.e., I had confused the reference to the personal applications folder with a reference to personal files, in effect). I guess I assumed that AS6 needed access to my flight plans (so they could be loaded and processed) as well as to the Flight simulator, but it never occured to me to grant access to fs9.cfg folder(which I completely forgot about). For those in s simlar situation: It is necessary to share three folders apparently (The Flight Sim directory, the fs9.cfg folder (the normally hidden applications folder) and the flight plan folder in the personal documents folder. Tried it last night and things looked like they worked as normal. Thanks for your patience. Can't beleive i suffered with this for about 7 months.
