June 1, 200620 yr I haven't had AS6 for long, but am finding mastering its settings a bit heavy going. I can basicaslly now set up a flight so that I choose weather at departure and destination, and it works fine, but I can't see from the manual or anywhere else (impending blindness; stupidity?) how to fine control things. How do I set cloud density for instance? I was used to going into FS default screens and setting what I needed but try as I might I can't get AS to load up the cloud density settings (one example) I'd like: mostly it's way too much and my frame rates dip to almost single figures. (My textures are from FE by the way, I'm not using ASG).I don't expect to be spoon-fed by posting here - especially as I am sure I am missing something very basic, but a pointer in the right direction would be very welcome. (And this applies to fine tuning all the settings - how to select light or heavy rain, wind speeds, for instance. Surely I have another option other than learning loads of METAR codes?Thank you !!Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
June 2, 200620 yr Hi,1. Cloud Density is set in FS04. It should be set to 100% 3D and and maximum coverage. You can cut back on the Cloud Draw Distance to 30 or 40 miles.2. You can limit cloud layers in ASv6. Try 3 and see.3. Our weather is controlled through METAR codes so there is no way around that. I do know I need to answer your other thread and maybe that will help you out.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
June 2, 200620 yr Author Jim,I did say in the other thread that I'd asked several questions and that you should answer at your convenience - so no worries! I'll look over there evry so often until you find the time to reply.I also said somewhee, and I am sure this is true for many, that I shall probably be asking dumb questions for a week or two, until I get things sorted in my mind, and then I shall be a bit more self-sufficient!As far as this thread is concerned, if I have to enter METAR data manually, where can I get the information on what to write for a specific weather setting I want? (The manual says entering METAR data is a good way to learn the codes, but it would be good if there were a kind of glossary of those codes somewhere - I haven't found anything by searching the forum as yet - maybe a wider Google search would help. I'll try.).Regards,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
June 2, 200620 yr Hi,Not a problem asking questions! That is why we are here!! I guess my request is that you continue to post over here and not at other Forums for the same information. It makes it harder on me because if I (we) don't answer you at the other forum it looks like we are ignoring you and we don't want that!!In your Start/Active Sky 6 menu in Windows you should have a icon called Avaition Weather Guide. That is a good place to start. I can also give you these:http://weather.cod.edu/notes/metar.htmlhttp://www.virtualgroundschool.com/grounds...ars.php#remarksHope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
June 2, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the links. Didn't notice a weather guide icon, but I'm not the world's most observant person, it must be said. And I'll only post AS stuff to this AVSIM AS forum in future, once the simforums threads are done with - I appreciate the problems it can cause if I don't.Thanks again.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
