July 1, 200619 yr Using AS6, I was at 3500' over KORD. Visibility was 10SM has shown below. I could still see downtown Chicago in the distance, though downtown is more the 10SM from KORD. I then went into FS2004 weather and set the visibility to 10SM. The visibility dropped to what I would expect. Downtown Chicago disappeared. What the difference in the visibility when AS6 sets it and manually setting the same visibility?MartyKORD 012153Z 23012G20KT 10SM FEW100 SCT150 BKN250 32/18 A2989 RMK AO2 PK WND 23026/2136 SLP115 T03170178
July 1, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi Marty,10 is the max that most stations report, even though visibility may be higher (much higher in certain situations). In AS we use a little bit of random but mostly conditional influences (humidity, wind speed and air stability) to come up with an extention to 10 miles when reported. We feel this approach is much more realistic than applying a fixed 10SM vis when reported.Of course, you can achieve the fixed 10SM max vis by limiting your max vis in AS options to 10 (or 9 to avoid a shift). When doing this it is recommended to have FS9 haze layer enabled.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
July 1, 200619 yr Thanks for the explanation!! I thought there might be some extra parameters playing into this.Marty
