August 26, 200619 yr I am trying to use AS to manually set up weather in the sim. I entered it in the ASV engine as follows:PANC 000000Z 05012KT 7SM OVC004 OVC020 12/11 A3001To me, this reads an overcast ceiling at 400 feet, and another at 2000 feet, with good visibility under the layer. I am shooting this at night, and when I get to about 1500 feet, I can see the runway fairly clearly. Not the 'in the soup' till 400 feet breakout I want. I had applied this to every airport 100 miles around. I saw no real layer at 400 feet at all. What am I doing wrong?
August 26, 200619 yr Hi,Please post your ASv6.ini and I'll take a look at your settings.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

August 26, 200619 yr Hi,Turn Force Lowest Ceiling Off.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 26, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,Force Lowest Ceiling, in this case, should ignore any layers above the 400ft one and concentrate on making it apparent.Turning it off would in theory make this situation worse. Please advise if it has any positive effect though, as it would indicate things are working a bit backwards! Thanks!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 27, 200619 yr Here is the offline metar used: PANC 000000Z 06012KT 3SM OVC004 OVC015 12/12 A3001And here is a screen shot. (this was with Jim's suggestion to turn off force lowest ceiling - it was previously on). It looks the same either way - no ceiling to speak of. Note this was shot directly over the airport at over 2000 feet - should be totally unable to see the ground.
August 27, 200619 yr Hi,Do you have 3D clouds at 100% and Cloud Cover at Maximum in FS04?Can you get solid OVC if using ASv6 in Online Mode?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 27, 200619 yr Hi Jim - my cloud settings in FS2004 are:Sight Distance: 60 MiCloud Draw Distance 30 MiDetailed Clouds3D clouds = 100%Cloud Cover = Max.Just switched to online mode, did a find weather and found this in southern California (right on ocean, airport is at 200 ft, MSL)I caught the ASV6 Metar report, after I had taken off and switched back to 'force lowest cloud layer'. Did not see anything different between the two.
August 27, 200619 yr Oops - forgot the Metar - thought it would be visible in the pic.KACV 270143Z 00000KT 1 3/4SM BR OVC003 11/11 A2994 RMK AO2 VIS 1V4 TSNO
August 27, 200619 yr Try locking your FPS to 20.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 27, 200619 yr Hmm - no luck. Here is another one - I set the frames to 20 as suggested. (They were at 25 - so not much of a difference). Here is the Metar copied from AS:CYXY 000000Z 04012KT 7SM OVC004 OVC025 12/11 A3001And here is a screenshot looking down on the airport and town from over 7000 feet. Should be nothing but dark clouds - but you can see, it is still vfr flying.
August 27, 200619 yr Just anticipating the next suggestion - I downloaded the latest FSUIPC, trashed the old FSUIPC prefs, and cleared weather etc. No effect.
August 27, 200619 yr Hi,We were sleeping!!Suggestions:Night shots do us no good. I can never see stuff in a night shot!Move off of the airport a little bit such as .5 mile. Some have found this to work and it may be a FS04 situation.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 27, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,Based on the screenshots, it appears the lowest layer is being depicted, but not quite ideally (mainly not thick enough and not in a large area around the airport). These are FS limitations at the moment. You might want to turn "Favor Cumulus vs. Stratus" off, as sometimes this can make the appearence of lower clouds look a little thicker.FWIW you can confirm if the weather is set correctly in FS via the airport atis report (from FS). If the ceiling is listed ok, it's "trying" to depict properly. If not, then there is another problem. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] for direct troubleshooting if you can produce an erroneous ceiling condition verified by the ATIS report.Thank you very much for your input and patience on this one!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
