FSX overcast & visibility variables

Featured Replies

Are these two truly independent variables in FSX? The recurring problem with all versions of MSFS is a low overcast sky is impossible without reducing the visibility. I tried the demo upon release and the problem still existed. *sigh*If possible please post an image with low ifr conditions of 300 ft ceiling and 10sm visibility. Ideally the overcast layer will remain solid down to 300 ft.

The problem is the weather data it's using. The problem is that the sim loads wx settings from ALL stations in the area, and synthesizes to some extent those wx in the sim. But what you see, is only as accurate as the *data*.So in other words, if you are in New York City, and it's reporting OVC at 300 feet, but Newark is reporting clear skies, and Bridgeport Connecticut is reporting Clear skies, THEN you WILL NOT see OVC in New York City. You will see broken. The nearby stations are influencing the weather you see. That's why we rarely see full OVC in FS.But with more consistent wx reporting stations, we can see full OVC. The problem with the Jeppesen (FS downloaded) weather is, that it is neither consistent nor time-matched. that's where the problem lies.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

How do you explain setting the weather manually without using ASV6 or FSRW?

I don't explain anything, I merely report on what was explained to me...If you set JFK for overcast, you would also have to set Newark, La Guardia, Westchester, Republic, Northeast Philadelphia, and probably every other airport within 100 miles of NY to get full ovc there. You can't just set one station for overcast, and expect it to be 100% solid deck there. FS will take nearby stations into account.Again, that's not gospel, that's just how it was explained to me.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I purchased FSX yesterday from ebgames and told fsinsider of the ovc issues. Hoping for a patch in the near future.
