DDR RAM Speed?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I have a question. I am currently running an Athlon XP2000+ CPU ON an ASUS A7V333 MBO. I have two sticks or 256MB DDR RAM 2700. There is one remaining slot for an addition stick of RAM. I would like to add another 256 MB. HOWEVER, according to ASUS. If the third slot is used, all the RAM on the MBO drops from 2700 to 2100! So, instead of 512MB@2700 I would have 768MB@2100. I am not sure whether this would be an upgrade or a downgrade!! Any suggestions??John-PaulToronto

What speed is your FSB currently? If 133Mhz then it's no problem. (PC2100DDR is certified for 133Mhz...PC2700 for 166mhz..though few PC reach it until recently)

As far as I know, we can only have 2 sticks of PC2700 ram with our Mobo. However, it doesn't really matter what slots they are in. For example, I am using slots 1 & 3, but am still running as PC2700. IMHO, I would just stay with the 512MB.MattAsus A7V333Athlon XP 2000+512MB Samsung PC2700Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600 GS
