Visibility

Featured Replies

I want to reduce my visibility limit, it appears at the moment to be unlimited. I have set 20 miles in options and the 'enforce visibilty' box is checked but there is no change. Any help would be apreciated.

Hi,Thanks for writing. Please make sure to restart FS04 and AS after changing visibility settings. That way, the values will be used correctly. Please let us know if this works out.Happy Holidays,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi Jim, Thanks for your reply.Yes I did restart FS & AS but still I have the unlimited visibility with no haze and a sharp horizon.I have only purchased AS in the last couple of days and I am deligted with it. If I can solve this it will be 100%!

Hi,OK a few other things to try:Reset FSUIPC to Default settings and weather settings Off.Please post your ASv6.ini file.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

OK Thanks, I will try this and get back to you tomorrow.

Hi JimI have reset FSUIPC as you said and tried again with the same result.It seems that AS is always setting maximum visibility. I have found that if I set the visibility in FS and then refresh AS it takes on the FS visibility setting.I paste the file you requested below://ASv6.5 configuration file Build 533[General]WindowPosX = 3030WindowPosY = 2220DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASv6SuppressionCeiling = 10000SurfaceWindLimit = 10FS9Path = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PersonalAppDataFolder = C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataCloudLayerLimit = 5LocalSuppressionRange = 100MinimumVisibility = 0MaximumVisibility = 29LastPlanFolder = C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsFlight Simulator FilesAutoVasFrequency = 30AutoVasStrength = 30TurbulenceFrequency = DefaultStartupLocation = KSEADefaultGraphicsFullTheme = DefaultGraphicsCirrusTheme = AutoSubmitGraphicsTheme = FalseIncreasedWake = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseForcePrimaryServer = FalseForceSecondaryServer = FalseGEProAutoSubmit = FalseUseFetchedStationforGEPro = TrueShowDecodedMBasDecimal = FalseSkyOverride = GEPROFavorCumulus = FalseForceRoutePressure = FalseForceLowestCeiling = FalseUnpauseOnReadyStatus = FalseDisableWriteThrottle = FalseDisableProcessThrottle = FalseForceTstormsWithCB = FalseAutoSetFSTime = TrueIgnoreFSLocationUntilReady = TrueAutoConvertPlanFiles = TrueAutoRefreshAI = TrueDisableVisGraduation = FalseEnableGEProWideFSMode = FalseExtendedThrottling = FalseForceRouteAloftTemp = FalseOfflinePlayback = FalseEnableVAS = TrueAutoGenVAS = TrueForceDestinationWeatherZone = FalsePreventIcing = TrueOnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseDisableAllGroundUpdates = FalseGlobalWrites = FalseDepictFS9HazeLayer = TrueExtendTstormLayers = FalseDisableDirectWindControl = FalseVoicePlayback = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = TrueDisableGroundUpdates = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueIgnoreFSReadyStatus = TrueFSUIPCWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = FalseLimitCloudLayers = TrueAutoGlobalWriteToggle = TrueRainWithTS = TrueDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = FalseAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 10VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = 0AloftPredictability = 100WindDriftRate = 0MaxCloudThickness = 10000MinStratusSeparation = 7000TAFProcessing = FalseEnforceVisibilityLimits = TrueWakeTurb = TrueStartPaused = FalseUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEThanks

One other issue that you may also be able to help with.Even with lower visibility settings I still get that very unnatural sharp horizon. I did read a post on this forum that said it was to do with textures. How can I get a permanently smooth horizon (hazy) without the horrible sharp line? Thanks

Hi,Set the maximum visibility to 5 and see what happens. Do not do anything in FS04.Use this for your Day Sky Color:Seasonal Smooth Horizon - 00Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi JimI have done as you said, set visibility to 5 and chose seasonal smooth. It has not worked.Everything seems fine untill you reach higher altitudes, around 15000', then back comes the sharp horizon and unlimited visibility.I have read what threads I can find on this subject and many seem to have a similar problem, but some don't.Surely there must be a definitive answer to this, is it a fault with AS or is there a positive fix that works?I would really like a solution to this problem, as all I seem to be doing at the moment is spending all my time trying to fix this instead of flying! If anyone who has had this problem and found a fix that works, please........Please.....ReplyMany thanks in anticipationIvor

I have spent over an hour looking at threads on this subject and I have tried a number of the suggestions. It seems that for me at least I have solved part of the problem, certainly with the horizon line bug. I have taken screenshots of a flight today at 30,000' over the Spanish/French border. The dreaded horizon line has dissapeared. But compare shots 3 & 4 taken 10 minutes apart, it reapears on the later shot.I assume this must be a change of textures from day to dusk? I am using the smooth horizon theme, but is that only day?ThanksIvor

Hi,Yes, the jump is due to going from day textures to dusk. For that there are no smooth textures to use.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi JimThanks for your reply. It would seem that this whole issue of the horizon line could be sorted to the satisfaction of many by the availability of dusk/night/dawn smooth horizon textures. Are there any plans to produce these in the future?ThanksIvor

Hi,I am honestly not sure. Please write us at [email protected] and make this suggestion. Hi,first of all, a happy 2007 to all of you at HiFi and on this forum... :)I have exactly the same problem as Ivor, namely, vis limit in AS won't stick. Have tried all sorts of things and it doesn't help. Vis limit works only if I set it in FSUIPC (registered). It SEEMS to work in AS while on the ground or at low altitudes, but after some time it goes back to unlimited. I run (the latest build) AS6 via WideFS, for now using only FS9, although I have it set up for FSX as well. But since my main FS computer crashed I never reinstalled FSX. AS6 uses it's own ASv6_FS9.ini file which is being updated and written to with correct values - I checked that. (been on the beta team long ago when we were testing Ver 1 for Damian, so I have no problem reading and poking around the .ini file :) )Unfortunately, I am not sure which build it was when this was still working, but it WAS working correctly with this exact setup, I am sure of that. I left it alone for a long time, but now that winter is upon us, I like to reduce visibility and the most elegant way to do that is through AS Max Visibility option. METARs, unfortunately, like 9999 too much. :)I will test some more and report back.Regards,Jure

Hi JureAnd Happy New Year!If you have read the whole thread and looked at my screenshots, then you are aware of the problem that many of us have with the sharp horizon line. It is very unnatural and detracts from the truly remarkable weather effects created by AS.We all have our preferences of how our FS world should look and one persons vision of reality may not suit another.I have played around with various settings for some time and I have come up with what I consider a perfectly good compromise of a way to almost elliminate the sharp horizon line at any altitude and to provide a realistic flying environment, well for me anyway!I use the ASG texture set with 'smooth horizon' and as I said in a previous post, this elliminates the horizon line for 'daytime' flying. However, as soon as dusk or dawn appears, so does the sharp horizon line, this is apparently because the ASG texture set does not include 'smooth horizon' sets for dusk and dawn and so reverts to the FS custom sets (maybe a good upgrade to come from ASG here?).For my nocturnal flying I downloaded the 'Blue Sky' texture sets 'blue_sky_v2.0.zip'. For my purpose I just installed the day/dusk and sun textures, although they do include a full set to replace the custom day textures as well, below is the description.File Description:Blue Sky Environment Upgrade V2.0 is a set of sky and sun textures that will make Flight Simulator more realistic. Included, are 7 day sets, 1 Dawn/Dusk set and 1 set of Sun Textures. They have been custom made for great performance and detail. They will dramatically help blend the horizon for a more realistic and soft look. Best of all, there is a utility included to help manage which textures you want to use. This version also fixes the bluish texture problem.I have found this makes for a vast improvement. It is not perfect, you still get a sharp line directly under the setting or rising sun and there is only one texture set for day dusk so you only have one theme, but apart from that, very good. I am sure if ASG do an upgrade for dusk dawn textures with smooth horizons they would do a number of different themes:-).I can't provide screenshots at the moment because I am sending this from my office computer and I do not have FS installed here........now there's a thought....... :( Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.Ivor
