January 24, 200719 yr I am using AS6.5 for both FSX and FS9. I have only one installation of AS6.5. I've disabled a lot of the options for FSX due to the limitations of FSUIPC v4.06 thus far. Everything seems to be going well with FSX & AS6.5, though. Now my question: Prior to firing up FS9 again, do I have to go back and check all of the options I was using previously for FS9? (fog layer, etc). Is there any way I could have two installations of AS6.5? I have FS9 on Drive C and FSX on drive G.....Actually, since I installed my new GeForce 7600 GS, FSX flies better than FS9.... Can't figure that one out yes -- must have to do with all the sliders in FS9 fully to the right while in FSX I've tweeked the settings.
January 24, 200719 yr Hi Steve,In the very top thread, there are posts that explain how to set up 2 .ini files and 2 shortcuts to AS. Then you don't need to do the switching. No, there is no way to safely do 2 installs because we write to the Windows registry.Yes, you would need to change the settings each time. Please let us know if you need more help with this.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 24, 200719 yr Author Jim, I've set up the two .ini files but I only use the one shortcut. I'll go back and read that thread again. Guess I missed that part. Thanks.
January 24, 200719 yr Hi Steve,OK, but now you need to tell AS which .ini file to use. So:Create a second shortcut to ASv6.exeRight click on the new icon and go to Properties. In the Target window add this to the end of the line: a space the name of the ini.ini Here is mine as an example E:FS2004ModulesASv6ASv6.exe FSX.iniSo when you fly FS04 you click on the normal icon. When you use FSX you click on the new icon. So you have 1 install, 2 different named .ini files and 2 different shortcuts.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 25, 200719 yr Jim, I have tried this a couple times with no success. Here's my shortcut target, directly from the clipboard: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASv6ASv6.exe" FSX.iniASv6.5 starts up as normal, and it works, but it's still reading the configuration from ASv6.ini. The place this shows up is on the throttle settings. As the readme explains, throttling can produce hickups in FSX during updates. That's certainly true on my rig. So, in my FSX.ini, throttling is disabled:DisableWriteThrottle = TrueDisableProcessThrottle = TrueBut when I load ASv6.5 with the FSX.ini shortcut, those checkboxes are unchecked (False). Is there something wrong with my shortcut? As I said, the program loads with it, but it doesn't seem to be using the FSX.ini file.
January 26, 200719 yr Hi,Remove the double quotes for both ends and leave one space between .exe and FSX.iniThanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 26, 200719 yr Author Jim, I finally have some time to set this up correctly and have some major questions. This sounds really stupid but... where is the .ini file? I've looked and looked and don't see anything with the extension .ini.... I've read the top post over and can't figure it out. Everyone is talking about wide server, etc., All I want to do is have it set so I can fly either FS9 with AS6.5 or FSX with AS6.5. Right now, FS9 doesn't work so well......
January 26, 200719 yr >Remove the double quotes for both ends and leave one space>between .exe and FSX.iniWhen I remove the quotes, I get this message:"The name 'C:Program' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct."The problem, I think, is that space between "Program" and "Files": Windows needs the quotation marks to know it's all part of the file name.I don't know what the solution is, though.
January 26, 200719 yr Hi David,Here is mine:E:FS2004ModulesASv6ASv6.exe FSX.iniJimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 26, 200719 yr Hi,The .ini file is in your ASv6 folder.Don't worry about wideserver and all that. The problem is that top thread contains multiple discussions, for sure. Why doesn't FS9 work so well? If you haven't made settings changes then nothing has changed! Let me see if I can summarize:Copy and rename your ASv6.ini file to FSX.iniCreate a second shortcut to ASv6.exe and rename the second shortcutRight click on the new shortcut and go to Properties. In the Target box, add after .exe a space and the name of the new ini.iniIf you e-mail your ASv6.ini to me I can do this and send everything back to you.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 26, 200719 yr Author Sorry I wasn't checking this thread last night. I think I have everything fixed now. I made a second icon for my desktop for AS6.5-FSX and included the FSX.ini section in the target. I then flew FSX using the new link. Everything worked in FSX -- winds at KFLL were 310/16G29 with lots of large billowing clouds moving from the NW to SE. Pretty cool. Flew on to Key West. So, FSX checks out. Then I went to FS9 and used my original AS6.5 icon. I didn't put any reference to an .ini in the target on this icon. Fired up FS9 and set my B1900 at KFLL. Weather was the same -- only I didn't have any movement in the clouds (since I have the weather change set to none or minimum). Barometer checked out. Clouds were there. ATIS was the same. So, everything checks out for both sims. I still don't get the .ini because I don't see any .ini files in my AS6 folder. I have an .exe and other files but no .ini. That's where my confusion lies. But, as long as it works, I won't complain. Steve
January 26, 200719 yr Hi Steve,Very good! Yes you are correct the origional icon and setup stays the same.In your ASv6 folder the .ini files are icons that have the orange gear on them.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
