February 4, 200719 yr Hello. So I've seen the suggestion/necessity point here regarding the "Render to Texture" check box in FS9 both ways here. I've seen where people/HIFI say that it should be checked and I have also seen where people/HIFI say that it should not be checked.Which way is it?Thanks!
February 5, 200719 yr Hi,If using DXT textures for anything, such as 3rd party clouds or plane textures, then Render to Texture must be On. If not, then RtT should be Off. So, we say both ways because of individual setups!!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 5, 200719 yr Author So if the "Use DXT3 instead of 32bit Color" option in ASG is NOT checked then the Render to Texture option should be off. Correct?
February 5, 200719 yr Author Also, would this make any difference if ASG/ASV are not even running? I know the texture files would still be loaded so that's why I ask.I am having all kinds of issues after having put together a new machine and I'm trying to figure out where they are coming from.Although even that wouldn't make much sense to me because the old machine was setup the same way. Render to texture was on and the DXT checkbox was off. But I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks!
February 5, 200719 yr Hi,Correct, unless you have plane textures in DXT3.If you are using B533 of Active Sky. The texture setting in ASG and the Render to Texture Setting in FS04 must be correct. DXT3 textures cannot be chosen if the RtT setting is wrong. Are you using B533?No, this would not matter if ASG were running or not.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 5, 200719 yr Author I will check the build number tonight and let you know. But, you say that it doesn't matter if ASG is running or not... Meaning even if ASG is NOT running the RtT setting must still be set correctly or bad things will happen. Is that right?
February 5, 200719 yr Render to Texture ON or OFF makes no difference to aircraft textures in DXT3, only clouds.I know from personal experience. Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
February 5, 200719 yr Hi,It all comes down to what textures are loaded when FS04 is started!DXT3 clouds--RtT On.32 bit clouds--RtT can be Off, for best performance.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 5, 200719 yr Author Okay, I get that. But now you say "for best performance".Does that mean if using 32 bit it should work either way?Don't tip-toe... Give it to me straight :-hmmm I can take it.
February 5, 200719 yr Hi,With 32 bit textures RtT will work either way, slower with it on and faster with it off. See which way works best for you, on your setup!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
