February 22, 200719 yr I just recently purchased AS and am enjoying it very much. Still a lot to learn and play around with though.Question: On printing out the enire weather report for a flight plan, the nav log has a couple of abreviations I'm not sure of.After DIST (Distance) there appears MC & MH. I believe these are reference headings, MC (Magnetic Compass?), MH (Magnetic Heading?).I appreciate very much some clarification and how these are used in flight.Jim
February 22, 200719 yr Hi,MH points to Magnetic North. MC points to True North using the magnetic declination.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 23, 200719 yr Author Thanks Jim. That is somewhat to what I was concluding, although the initials wouldn't necessarily lead me to the correct answer. So are the wind directions from MC or MN (true N or mag N)? I think I know this one (True N?)I understand the majority of the METARposted below, but don't understand what CAVOK is nor BECMG0810 or BECMG1618. I know BECMG means BECoMinG (?) but don't understand the numbers. Couldn't find an answer in the manual either.DGTK 222300Z 26008KT CAVOK 28/26 Q1012 NOSIG RMK AUTOGENDGTK 222130Z 230024 00000KT CAVOK BECMG0810 28012KT BECMG1618 00000KT RMK AUTO GENERATED RMK AUTO GENERATED RMK AUTO GENERATEDThanks again for the help.Jim
February 23, 200719 yr Hi,METARs report True wind direction, ATIS reports Magnetic direction.CAVOK=Although not used in US, Ceiling And Visibility OK replaces visibility, weather and clouds if: visibility >=10km;no cloud below 5000 ft (1500m) or below the highest minimum sector altitude, whichever is greater and no CB;and no precipitation, TS, DS, SS, MIFG, DRDU, DRSA, or DRSN.That second line is a TAF report. The numbers after the BECMG are the times and then the predicted winds. From the Start/Programs/Active Sky6, there is a .pdf document called Avaition Weather Guide. There are good parts near the end on METARs and TAFS. Also I have some good links.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 23, 200719 yr Author Thanks again Jim. Very helpful, and thanks for reminding me of the documentation. I did print the decoder pages before but hadn't read the documentation, so some codes were confusing.
