ImagineSim airports 20% off at their website
Gregg, I have KSJC for FS9 and it is very good. When they were developing this airport I was the building inspector for the new terminal and was able to provide them with architectural renderings for the new terminal. I feel that it is as accurate as possible. Since then, new taxiways have been added on the western side where corporate aircraft and some GA aircraft are positioned along with some new current construction which would not appear in the scenery. I recommend obtaining it. Jim D. KSJC

Saitek throttle quadrants.
I have 2 Saiteks and 1 CH TQ. They plug into the USB ports. If you don't have enough, add a USB card or module with several ports. FS will see them as well as FSUIPC (if you have it). Jim D.

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
Al, I guess I didn't explain what I meant clearly enough about panning and Trackir. In FS9 I changed views with a button on the yoke. So when I was in the VC mode with Trackir and I clicked the button to change views, say for example to the outside view, I could then pan without having to pause Trackir. Now with SE, view will not change at all. I now need to do as you mention pause Trackir. Then it is possible to change views and pan. Maybe this is different in FSX from FS9. Well, I'll adjust and thanks for the tip. Jim D.

How to?
I understand that FSX SE can be opted to run off line if desired. I don't see that option when running Steam. What I have done is to open Task Manager and end Steam there and then continue on with FSX SE. Is there another method? Thanks, Jim D.

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
Sorry, I didn't read my post very well before. I meant to say that after I put the sensors back in range, view change and panning is still not possible. This has also affected FS9 and I don't know why. Jim D.

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
Thanks for the answers Pete. I will retest with an aircraft where I was able to create a macro in FS9, such as the iFLY 737 and others. The other issue I have since using SE is with my Trackir. It works fine but does not allow me to change views or use the POV switch to use thepan view. If I remove the sensors from being 'seen' by tracker, view change works and so does panning. Put the sensors back in range, now view change or panning possible. Jim D.

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
Having recently installed FSX SE, I now have a number of issues that I did not have with FS9. I won't address everyone one of them at this moment but I need some direction on two of them. For the record, this is a clean install of SE. I never installed the original FSX. First is with FSUIPC. I downloaded the newest version 4.939e I think, now lack the ability to make a mouse macro k key or button assignments. Even though I set it up as previously in FS9, when I try to make a macro nothing appears on the screen when I mouse click a function. This has also affected my FS9 FSUIPC function as I cannot create a macro in that sim now. I am able to assign several functions via FSUIPC in the SE version but not able to create a macro but unable to assign other functions. Second issue. I use TrackIr. If I don't use the Trackir, the POV hat switch and the view change button work just fine. I can move the view ahead or back, raise the eye point or lower it, Once I engage Tracker I am unable to change the view or use the pan feature. This too has affected the FS9 version. If I remove the sensors from my hat, those buttons work just fine. Those are two of the most frustrating situations at the moment. I hope someone can help with these two issues. BTW, I'm getting 65+ FPS even though I set the limit to 30. Thanks, Jim D.

Couple of questions
Directions could be clearer. When clicking on the Library tab, RIGHT click on Flightsimulator X and then it is no sweat to download the BETA. Just get the code from Steam Forum site. Jim D.

Couple of questions
I'm attempting to install the BETA update but can't find it. Instructions are: Open Steam, Open library tab, FSX, Properties, etc. Problem is I open Steam which loads my FSX library page. After that I cannot find anything for selecting the BETA update. Please, I need better directions or a direct link to the update. Thanks, Jim D.

Couple of questions
Thanks again Pete. I found it. I did originally install it to another drive and found it here: D:Steamlibrary\Steamapps\Common\FSX. I only have three folders there, common, downloading, temp and a appmanifest_314160.acf whatever that is. Headed off to work but will check back shortly. Jim D.

Couple of questions
Thanks Pete for your reply. As to question 1, I have the Jan release version. Very difficult to see the number on the splash screen. How does one find the "beta" version and download it? Question 2; My FSX file @ Program files (x86)\Steam/SteamApps folder doesn't contain the 'COMMON' folder. Mine reads C:Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods and a 'libraryfolders.vdf Thanks for any more help. Jim D. p.s. I'll be getting FSUIPC as I have it for FS9 and couldn't do without it.

Couple of questions
As never having installed FSX, even though I have owned the boxed version for some time, I decided to try out the SE version and downloaded it on Jan. 2 2015. Then after a few days I uninstalled it. Today I reinstalled SE and want to work with it. So I have a couple (for now) of questions. I'm aware that SE has been updated and I checked the cfg file and it shows an updated file as of todays date. So I believe that all the recent changes by STEAM are now included in this latest download. Correct? Since the FSX SE tree does not appear in my computer, is there a way to access the different folders as I was able to do with FS9? In some cases, some add-on effects in FS9 instructed me to add the folder or the effect into the 'effects' folder of FS, or in regard to modules, to install a module into the 'modules' folder of FS9. How is that to be done if required for SE? Or is that now obsolete? Does SE install everything to the proper location since there is no way that I am aware of to view those files in the FSX file folders? I may have more questions in a few days, but this is sufficient for a start. Thanks for the information. I did do a search here but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, and most of the info posted was related to issues before the new updates were recently released. Jim D.

Ultimate Terrain vs. ORBX products
The above opinions are very helpful. Thanks. I'm going to start improving my default FSX SE. I love flying New Zealand/Australia and am considering the GEX version. Since GEX USA is used in conjunction with UTX USA, what additional package for terrain/vector should be used with GEX Au/NZ since there is no UTX for that region? Thanks for the suggestions, Jim D. P.S. I've looked at ORBIX and VLC but seem to be leaning toward GEX. Some of your thoughts are appreciated. Also looked at GODZONE Photo real but I like to have all the seasons. Again, opinions are welcome.

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
Dave, Are you sure FSUIPC doesn't work with STEAM? I just downloaded FSX STEAM as a clean install, that is, I did not have MS FSX installed at all on my computer. Then I went on to purchase FSUIPC for FSX and was able to install it and register it. Assignments are made on the default aircraft and functioning. I don't have any add-on aircraft, payware or freeware, so not sure if it will work with those. I like the idea of the developers posting on a separate thread or a dedicated form so we can be notified when their products become SE compatable. Jim D..

Terrain mesh ?
Thanks for the replies, but are you using Genesis with the STEAM version or with the MS version? Thanks for clarifying. Jim D.

Terrain mesh ?
Several years ago I purchased a lifetime membership with FS GENESIS at a reduced price which I know is no longer valid. At that time I purchased the mesh disks for both FS9 & FSX. I never installed X even though I owned it. I bought the STEAM version today for $5.00 & installed it. I now want to install mesh. So is the FS GENESIS mesh the best way to go or is there something better now. Also, what about LC? Any suggestions, or UT still top of the line. Thanks for your input. Jim D..

Very basic flight question
You need to bring the wings back to level with the yoke by turning it in the opposite direction of the initial turn as you are doing. Starting the turn you then neutralize the yoke at the bank angle desired until turn is completed. Then level out the wings at desired hdg. Also, slight back pressure on the yoke during the turn is needed to maintain altitude due to some loss of lift on the lower wing. Jim D.

Saitek TQ malfunction
All is well now. Support at the iFLY forum was great. Took a little while and some rebuilding of the SUIPC.ini and FS.cfg files and removing others. Jim D.

Saitek TQ malfunction
Searching through this forum I see that others have experienced the same issue as I am now but no definite solution was given. This didn't happen until recently. I haven't seen this occur before, so maybe someone can help out. I'm using FSUIPC registered version with FS9 and Saitek TQ's. One of the axis controllers has stopped working in a sense, that is, in FSUIPC it doesn't register movement throughout the entire range. It only goes from 0 when in the detent and on leaving the detent it jumps to 16383 immediately in the axis assignment values section of FSUIPC. However, the action shows full range when testing in the MS Devices section in Control Panel. This has affected other controls on other aircraft as well. Since it displays full range in MS Device Control Panel, it would seem to be an issue with FSUIPC. Now I can delete the .ini file and rebuild it, but that would require reprogramming all of the assignments (a lot of work), unless I can copy all the assignments and paste them into the new .ini file. Is that possible? I hope I made myself clear. Any thoughts are appreciated. Jim D.

Saitek Pro Flight Yoke Questions
About the extra knobs question, I purchased my units quite a while ago so the memory is not real good, but I have extra knobs that came with one of my units, either the original purchase with the yoke and the TQ as a package, or when I purchased the second TQ. It came with 2 black, 1 red and 1 blue extras. There is also a handle bar that will connect 4 levers together. You can program two functions for one lever if you want. You mentioned flaps with spoilers. That would not be wise as you don't want spoilers up when setting different flaps settings. They need to be independent functions. Thus the need for two TQs. Jim
