April 6, 201313 yr Not sure if I'm supposed to wake up an already existing thread on the same topic or to start a new one so here goes...just wanted to report the response time from AVSIM is very poor compared to other sites so no problem with my internet connection. I'm on a 100/100 Mbit fiber connection and where other sites load in less than a couple of seconds at most AVSIM takes approx 20 secs to load. I've already tried the suggested things like flushing my DNS, clearing the IE history etc but still same problem so something just doesn't seem right currently with the AVSIM site.
April 6, 201313 yr I can confirm AVSIM has been running rather slowly lately. Reported the issue couple of times, hope there is something that can be done. After some testing it seems the connection to the AVSIM server is the the range of 140-150 ms of ping, so I would suppose it is maybe the website itself. It may need some front end optimisation or something else, not sure. Try downloading program called WinMTR and test your connection to AVSIM. At least you will know if it's your service provider or something else. regards Ignat
April 6, 201313 yr Yup, same here. There is obviously some intrinsic problem as most of the other sites I visit are fine... April 6, 201313 yr Okay, so complaints of slow speeds of response from Sweden, Bulgaria, Finland and the U.K. I am getting response times of 1.3 seconds in the U.S. The system is not overloaded, nor showing undo numbers of open processes, though as I write this, we have over 840 users online. You think their might be a clue there guys? Here's a solution; we can shut down access to all GUESTS, so that they cannot read anything or see anything on the site, until they register. But I will give you two guesses as to what will happen when we do that; we'll get castigated for shutting off GUEST access. Is that what you would like us to do? EDIT: Oh by the way; have you read about the slowdowns over the entire net due to hackers in the news? It's been there for days.
April 6, 201313 yr No problem here in the North of England. Been able to login, and access content here without any sluggishness. Rick Almeida
April 6, 201313 yr Response time and initial load time is normal here for me in Ireland 2-3 seconds at the most. Haven’t notice any problems with speed using IE9 or IPad mini. Stephen Asus Z170 Deluxe, 32 GB DDR4 Dominator Platinum, i7 6700k mild overclock, GTX Titan ( Pascal ) Win10
April 6, 201313 yr Author Tom,

Other sites are responding just fine both sites located in Europe and US.

Then regarding the question you brought up with guest access, how did you guys do it in the past because I can't remember experiencing AVSIM this sluggish and I've been a member for nearly 10 years.

April 6, 201313 yr Tom, no one is asking to shut the guests or anything. It's just our favourite website is pain to browse lately. I am sure you get 1.3 sec response. However, here beyond the big blue, the things are bit different. For me, things look like this as we speak: 268 requests - 1.3 MB (1.1 MB from cache) - 24.99s (onload: 16.71s) Please have a look at this: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/130406_VW_R89/ In my humble opinion, 250+ http requests are a bit of an overkill. 7.5 sec before the caching from Dulles, VA. That's for the front forum page (forum.avsim.net) Please, take this not as whining, I am just trying to help improve the site. best regards Ignat
April 6, 201313 yr Commercial Member Where can I turn off the face preview, didn't find a way when I quickly looked. Turning off gallery preview seemed to help a bit, the website hasn't been too slow for me anyway, just a slower than it was before the the changes earlier this year. Though now I'm not sure if it could be partially my browser too, I used Google Chrome before and it got messed up so I switched to Mozilla.
April 6, 201313 yr You need to pass your mouse over the area then the minus sign will show up Rich Sennett
April 6, 201313 yr Where can I turn off the face preview, didn't find a way when I quickly looked Look at my picture above again. The gear in the top right corner will allow you to turn FACES off.
April 6, 201313 yr There is a problem with the site and I don't believe getting rid of guests will improve speeds. I've been a member for many years and the problem ocurred many months ago from one day to the next and not as a consequence of how many online. Not complaining only trying to help.
