April 6, 201313 yr Author Tom, Other sites are responding just fine both sites located in Europe and US. Then regarding the question you brought up with guest access, how did you guys do it in the past because I can't remember experiencing AVSIM this sluggish and I've been a member for nearly 10 years. The 's in your message indicate you are coming in from a Tapatalk client, correct? Hi Tom, You're right, wrote that message on my Samsung Galaxy S3 using the TapTalk app and not sure why that sometimes results in these signs instead of an actual line feed. Doesn't happen all the time though so let's see how this post will end up. As for the response times I've seen the same problem both from my mobile and my PC. Strange though how some people report no issues at all where others like myself have these bad response times. That to me would indicate the problem indeed is somewhere on the way to the AVSIM site rather than with the site itself. Could it have anything to do with what browser you're using or some settings in the browser maybe?
April 7, 201313 yr I honestly think it is IPB. I run a super small GA community and with nobody on the site sometimes it takes forever and randomly just slows down. The last couple updates they have pushed including the last security one have messed things up. William Sequeira
April 7, 201313 yr That to me would indicate the problem indeed is somewhere on the way to the AVSIM site rather than with the site itself. Could it have anything to do with what browser you're using or some settings in the browser maybe? I am looking at forum performance numbers directly at the processor, not browser response times. When I consistently see execution times from the system of less than 1 second to execution times of 3 seconds, and you are reporting 20 second response times, all I can say is that the issue resides somewhere other than our system. And yes, the issue can reside in your choice of browser, your browser cache, and about a million other things that can influence your perception of response. It is more than a little frustrating to sit behind our "dashboard" looking at system loads, execution times etc. and not see any issues, and you and others from Europe are claiming our system is slow, flawed, has issues, etc. The only alternative is to start shutting down features, or have someone send us a check to buy a bigger, faster, more powerful server. And, I can guarantee you that purchasing a new server will NOT solve your response time issues and all we will have done is waste money trying to appease the 20 second "system is slow" issue. The other alternative, as I have previously stated is to shut down system access to guests. And believe me, most of the Board have reached point where this is becoming a more and more attractive solution to your 20 second slow response time. I honestly think it is IPB. I run a super small GA community and with nobody on the site sometimes it takes forever and randomly just slows down. The last couple updates they have pushed including the last security one have messed things up. Are you running your own server with IPB, or are you running a hosted solution? If yours is your own server, look at your open processes during those "slow" periods and tell me what you are seeing.
April 7, 201313 yr Author Well, I'm no web expert in any way. All I can say is that for some reason AVSIM has become very sluggish here compared to what it used to be and considering it's one of my most visited sites I hope the problem regardless where it's located will be found and fixed eventually.

April 7, 201313 yr Wow now its working you are good my friend not sure what that's all about - thanks Tom - hmm shouldn't we be out at the nights clubs right now lol Nothing has been changed so whatever was wrong probably had to do with your browser cache. And... I am too old to be spending my Saturday's at the local pub... they all come over to my house instead.

Yep, you are looking at the back-end. Processor / execution times / system loads etc. are the back end. We are talking about the front-end. Where all the images, layers, banners, javascripts are. They are being rendered on the user side. Also have in mind that for many people "response time" is the time after which the website is actually loaded and working, not the network / apache actual response time, Tom. It is equally frustrating to browse AVSIM threads at average load times ~15 sec. Besides, I did not see any 'claims' about 'flawed' or 'has issues' in the previous posts. Everyone was polite and non aggressive, just slow speeds reports that have been experienced lately from long time members. It is entirely up to you sir how to respond to honest reports. What can I make out of your response is that your weekend could've been better. We are all adults and perfectly aware that the free service you offer is impeccable for over a decade. No doubts about that. As a full-time web developer, and if I may: for me the problem is in the front-end of the site, e.g. features. When we are browsing a simple thread, the browser loads 20 java scripts alone. All of which do something. Some of them are part of IPBoard, some of them provide extra functionality, e.g. paypal donate button or tapatalk support. In general we end up with ~100 http requests, all of which take time. In West Virginia it is negligible but in Europe it has big impact. The overall size of page 2 of this thread before my posting is 1.5 MB. Which is quite a lot when you see only two posts and two screenshots, no? And again: no whining, just trying to help. No disrespect or anything. I know it is rather annoying to have these kind of conversations, I feel like a child before his father after breaking the MIng dynasty vase just typing this post. But really, no one is trying / wanting to be offensive. Thank you for your time. best regards Ignat P.S. I am attaching a screenshots how does my browser render page 2 of this thread before my posting (no banners or extra stuff) and the loading time line for clarity. rendering at http://i.imgur.com/MDKy4Im.jpg time line at http://i.imgur.com/D82hZVD.png
April 7, 201313 yr Author Thanks Ignat, as the person who started this thread you really nailed it in your post above.<br /><br />My intention was in no way to whine but rather report something with the AVSIM doesn't seem right lately in regard to response times or whatever the correct term might be and quite honestly it feels a bit so-so to be met with an almost aggressive attitude so I will probably think twice before posting about this kind of issue next time.
April 7, 201313 yr Commercial Member Tom, I can also confirm that the website is currently almost un-usable. I tried Safari, Chrome, IE and Firefox, and the website will take more than 45 seconds to load and even hang up at times where the browser will simply stop loading the page and nothing is displayed. All other sites load almost instantly. FWIW, I'm on a Fios 50/25 connection, in Central Virginia. It took me more than 5 minutes just trying to get this post in. It just kept stalling.
